1. I think the most powerful was Usama bin Laden, and he may have been dead most of that time.
He set the world agenda, and just the mention of his name could launch fleets and squadrons. Helen of Troy had nothing on him.

Cheney was just his unwitting puppet.

if his people - like Don Rumsfeld or John Yoo or Paul Wolfowitz or David Addington came forth and backed him up.

I'd fucking PAY to see them out there. I really would.

How come no one is pointing out that it's a complete weenie move to send your kid - who is worthless and lacks credentials - to defend you? I mean, we know that Cheenee is a weasel, but, seriously, hiding behind your daughter's skirts?

is also the party of no loyalty. Historically, they have a tradition of throwing their own under the bus once they have become embarrassing or no longer useful.
