Give me liberty or give me death
Edited on Thu May-21-09 10:31 PM by Believing Is Art
No matter what we do, there will probably be another major terrorist attack in my lifetime. Bordered by two oceans, we've been lucky. But that doesn't matter so much anymore.

Could the regressive tactics of the Bush admin, built on fear keep us safer? Maybe, I don't know. But I do know that I would rather die at the hands of the terrorists than live in a country that spies on me, holds prisoners indefinitely without trial, tortures, and starts preemptive wars.

I would sooner be killed than live in an America that makes me sacrifice my freedoms. So dear Cheney, bugger off.

1. Don't ask for liberty or freedom here, or they will call you a libertarian
A simple way to avoid discussion and arguing.

go figure.

2. Bah, libertarians are crazy
But how can anyone here argue that not wanting to live in a totalitarian state is libertarian?

Cheney is just really starting to piss me off. Big time. I mean, no matter what we do, we'll probably be attacked again. It's sad but true. And as I'm listening to Cheney I'm thinking, I'd rather be dead than live in the country you wanted to create.

3. They can argue it because of their own fundie zeal to control others
All too often folks justify new laws and regs because they would not do X and people that do so are wrong/bad/sinners/etc.

At least I knew where cheney stood and could count on people on the left fighting against him, some one the left though scare me more because they want similar things (government control of your personal life) they just find new ways to justify it because it makes them feel good.

Ban guns, ban smoking, ban christians, ban this, that, the other because it is good for us ALL. Except on the left we don't use God as the reason - we use earth, climate, pollution, health care costs, money in general, to find reasons to make others live their lives the way we see as best.

Liberty and freedom got thrown under the bus by folks on both sides for different reasons - each side justifies it though and tells people on their side how this is best for them.

And yet, we still have politicians and party hacks on both sides justifying the same thing day in and out and both sides backing up their 'guy' because he is right in what he does but for different reasons.

Stand on principles, and you are labeled a libertarian. Stand for reducing freedoms and liberty and you are branded loyal.
