Dick Cheney = Colin Ferguson.

Do you remember Colin Ferguson? He was the madman who shot up the Long Island Railroad in December of 1993. He killed (among others), Dennis McCarthy, the husband of Carolyn McCarthy (D)NY, and grievously wounded her son.

He then acted as his own defense attorney in the bizarrest trial in NY. It was an absolute circus. He cross-examined the people he had terrorized on that train. It was clear he was mad as a hatter, but the law determined that he be allowed to proceed.

Cheney is that madman, conducting his own defense in the media (who, we all know, won't shy away from any circus).

1. Ron Kuby (host of "Doing Time" on AAR) was fired as counsel by Ferguson.

2. Did he dare to suggest that Ferguson

avail himself of the insanity defense? That was clearly the obvious choice.

3. It was almost comic save for the gravity of the trial.

Kuby told the court that his client lacked the mental capacity to understand the proceedings and assist with his defense, that he didn't understand what he had done and the consequences of his actions. Ferguson fired Kuby as he claimed he was mentally competent about everything, and then proceeded to prove to the jury by defending himself pro se that Kuby was right.
