I wrote about how they neglect to define the term "rejoin fight" and how the Pentagon has grossly embellished this statistic in the past. However, let us, for a moment, assume that this number is completely accurate...

1. I'm Having a Really Hard Time Believing Any of The Gitmo Detainees are Terrorists
Probably because of the lack of any evidence, legal proceedings, human rights, and the like. I see victims. Bushwhacked Cheney victims.

3. If we "know" they are...
rejoining the fight. Doesn't that mean we "knew" they were fighting before. Why couldn't we charge them? We all know why. Because we did not "know" they were terrorists.

20. There's a link at this post that runs down the Seton Hall study:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=102&topic_id=3886443&mesg_id=3886983

They are bakers, journalists, grandfathers, teenagers, religious tourists who were sold to Rumsfeld for about $2000 mostly by the Northern Alliance.

14. Just because Gitmo is a royal f-up
does not mean there are not some really bad, documentable bad guys there. Don't throw out the baby with the bath.

15. if they are...
"documentable" bad guys, why were they released? My post was about, and only about, the people that were released. They were released because of the fact that they are not "documentable"

2. I say give us their names and addresses and let us check and see what they are up to.
Whether they returned to terrorism or just took up terrorism as a hobby is a mute point since this is all Dick Cheney's wet dream as near as I can tell. If the US knows so much about these guys, and they are so bad, then let's arrest them again.

6. if we "know" that..
they were terrorists, why did we not charge them? Oh right, because we did not actually know that. For all we knew, some war lord in Afghanistan merely sold us a homeless guy, and said he was a terrorist.

11. Perhaps they are doing their part of the golden rule. They have
been done unto, so now they will return the deed to the original owners.

BTW, is it possible you meant "moot" rather than "mute"?

4. Rejoined, or simply joined?
Leaving aside the fact that this is probably just plain untrue, I have to ask: if you had been locked up for years without proper legal process, tortured, and had your mind destroyed, what would you do when you were released and returned to a country wrecked by the same people who had wrecked you? If you were approached by people who asked "would you like to help kill some of those bastards?", would you be tempted to say yes?

7. I completely agree...
that's why I said, at the lowest possible estimate, we are locking up six innocents for every 1 terrorist.

all of them. There is no middle ground.

But then...I'm channeling Dick Cheney here.
