Krugman calls Obama's bluff...
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/22/opinion/22krugman.html?_r=1
"...Mr. Obama assured voters that he would get tough: “If those insurance companies and drug companies start trying to run ads with Harry and Louise, I’ll run my own ads as president. I’ll get on television and say ‘Harry and Louise are lying.’ ”

The question now is whether he really meant it.

The medical-industrial complex has called the president’s bluff. It polished its image by showing up at the big table and promising cooperation, then promptly went back to doing all it can to block real change. The insurers and the drug companies are, in effect, betting that Mr. Obama will be afraid to call them out on their duplicity.

It’s up to Mr. Obama to prove them wrong."
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/22/opinion/22krugman.html?_r=1

Krugman is right, and it's becoming ever more clear that we, the people who donated and voted for Obama, must also call his bluff on the other promises...Iraq,the economy, TORTURE, Healthcare, energy, the CHANGE!!! We are the last chance to stop and maybe undo the 'compromises' that in fact were nothing but sugar coating the failed Cheney/Bush policies, and to rid the administration of all the people who were part and parcel in the making and implementing of the disaster that the last 8 years came to be. Hiring and appointing Cheney Bush lackeys is not CHANGE!

Yep. IF we want change it is going to take a momentum of discourse convinicing people . Dem senators and house members should be speaking up at every moment. I dont see any of it. There is going to be hard right and meally mouth confusion at the table. A compromise between these two will lead to mild reform that will be outdated in two years. THEN WE WILL BE PAYING 22% OF GNP FOR HEALTHCARE INSTEAD OF 20%.

Some remember 1993. Its happening again, but too many Obama worshipers are caught in this hes not a republican trap. Why do you think insurance and pharma have given so much to the Democrats. Is it that you dont want change, you just want to keep dropping bombs on the middle east with the words "dont blame me I voted for Obama" on them. Perhaps it could be carved into pills as well.

It is the blind loyalist dems that keep us Corporate right. The Corporate dems know they can just put up Cheyney and nobody will catch on just how Goldman they are to Cheyneys Sachs.

6. Sorry not going to reed all that. Don't care about what you have to say.
I was just commenting on someone's comment that I though was funny. I haven't cared about anything Krugman has had to say since back in the primary's. He's proved himself to be a publicity hound.

Who is this us you speak of? Are you saying that it's the fault of loyalist Dems that the Corporations run this country? Man you need to fucking get out more. I'm not real happy with "lock-step" Dems either but to blame all this on them is crazy.

27. Love your emoticon. Where did it come from? I want one that
smiles then looks sad then drinks from a bottle with skull and crossbones and turns into a skull that smiles and flies away on angel wings. If you can make them could you make that? Great work.

5. It is time to mobilize The People. There should be, of course, at least
Edited on Fri May-22-09 08:14 AM by salguine
one million-citizen march on Washington, and as many more as can be staged.

In the short(est) term, why not make a simple flyer that simply reads, in huge block letters, SINGLE PAYER NOW!, make it available to print out on your home computer, and simply have as many people as possible fax it to the White house? Pick a date...say, June 10th, or whatever day you want to make it—leave enough time to get the word out—and have as many people across the country fax it to the White House as possible. It would be great to overwhelm the whole system...It could also be faxed to whichever members of Congress need to be most specifically targeted...If a million people committed to doing it, and each sent it ten times—either all to the White House, or spread out among various targets—that would be pretty impressive.

Maybe the moderators at DU could make a simple flyer available to print out from DU, and post a link to it prominently on DU's main page, and network with other like-minded groups (like the California Nurses Association, for example) to do the same to boost the response to the biggest possible level.

Let's pick a date and do it! Skinner, how about it?

7. Yep. The insurance companies own the politicians.
If the people promise to vote out of office every politician who votes against health care for Americans, health care without insurance companies involved, we may get what we need.

with an account of what you've done and how and provide a photo.

It's really that simple.

19. Yes, it is that simple, ordinarily, but I've just moved to a new city and I don't
have the software—even simple layout software—up and running; I have no printer and I barely have a working computer right now.

Even so, I can't distribute flyers all over the country by myself. That's why I suggested having a central place where people could go to print out one for themselves, then they can reproduce them if they want, or they can just fax it as is, or whatever. I just suggested that maybe DU might be willing to do it, because, well, here we all are, right? And other, different organizations with like-minded purpose could post it and make it available for their adherents as well. It's a practical way of spreading the workload as widely as possible and making it possible for a maximum number of people to participate with the least amount to do, because years of polling and canvassing and other efforts have shown me that people are usually willing to put in some effort as long as most everything is done for them, and all they have to do is write a signature (or, in this case, print out a single page).

Is there anything else I can answer for you?

8. I'm with Krugman on this
Obama needs to prove that he will get tough with the health care industry or will he cave in, like he did on not investigating and prosecuting Bush officials for torture. And Obama needs to respond to this immediately after the health care insurance lobby launches those proposed anti-public policy ads.

21. Slings and Arrows of not being called a 'Moderate' On CNN
Someone needs to say stuff like Krugman does. More and more of it. Compare the democrats speeches on healthcare. In 1970s and even 80s sigle payer was mainstream of party. Now its FRINGE OF PARTY WHILE STILL HAVING 70% IN POLLS..

We are not losing on this one ONLY BECAUSE OF REPUBLICANS.

We are losing because of Democrats like Hillary and NOW THE MAJORITY OF THE PARTY who do not punch back hard when the Republicans lie lousdly like sacks of raw sewage.

I have seen the democrats bow down to the alter of Corporate Media moderation for thirty five years in a row.

For just that long we have been moving consistently right. Ciritics go on with your outrageous crime: the crime of criticizing the democrats when they are wrong, instead of praising them always because there is a D next to their name.

Such a policy is now called "moderate" on CNN.
