Liberty University Shuts Down Campus Democratic Party Club
Liberty University will no longer recognize its campus Democratic Party club because its parent organization stands against the conservative Christian school's moral principles.

The club, which has about 30 members, will no longer be able to use Liberty's name, hold on-campus meetings or be eligible for student activities money.

"I think it does the university a great disservice to stifle one side of the discussion simply because we are Democrats,'' said Maria Childress, the club's adviser and an administrative assistant at the school.

Brian Diaz, president of Liberty's Democratic club said he was informed of the school's decision in a May 15 e-mail.

"The candidates supported are directly contrary to the mission of Liberty University," the e-mail said.

I am surprised they had one to begin with. The purge is reaching every corner.

2. What the fuck are "Democrats" doing at Evil Uncle Chuckles University anyway?
Edited on Fri May-22-09 12:53 PM by Ian David
Well, now that Pat Robertson has explained to them that being a Democrat is inconsistent with being a chrisTian fundamentalist, one of two things will happen:

1) They will realize that Evil Uncle Chuckles is a fascist piece of shit and become Humanists.

2) The will go from being Conservative chrisTians to becoming Liberal Christians (Unitarians and United Church of Christ are very nice)

Didn't Robertson rail against Universities kicking military recruiters out???

6. Probably just as well in this case.
Liberty University was founded by Jerry Falwell. Any "Democrats" attending that school were probably to the right of the DLC, and therefore less than useless anyhow.

11. My husband is from Lynchburg... some Dems there and some kids
who go to Liberty because it is local and offers scholarships including some of my husband's friends who went to play football. Dems in these situations need our support most.

13. I trust Liberty U doesn't get a dime of state or federal money, right?
Seems to me it's the Ratpublicans who are against education and school loans and such. I know LU doesn't care about education, but they probably want their Federally backed student loan program?

16. A Taste of What Would Happen if Obama Had Lost The Election
Imagine a McCain / Palin run country. The gradual tightening of control. So gradual. Each step designed to invoke only small amounts of outrage. Day by day.

And then one day we wake up in a fascist country.

That's how the Nazis did it. Took almost 10 years.

So for those Democrats that say - don't defend the Democrats at Liberty, they shouldn't be there anyway - there is only a small number - etc. ----- I say - fight back every time, fight back for every Democrat - or some day there will be no one left to fight for you.

18. those are some strange moral principles
Why don't they say the same thing about the Republican party? My moral principles are based on Matthew 25

25: 35 "I was hungry and you gave me food" Democrats increasing funding for food stamps

25: 42 "I was hungry and you gave me no food" Republicans voting against more funding for food stamps, and blocking eligible people from getting food stamps ( see: Giuliani, Rudy)

25: 35 "I was a stranger and you took me in; I was naked and you clothed me."

Programs like section 8 housing and Liheap, providing shelter for those unable to provide for themselves - created, expanded and funded by Democrats, opposed by Republicans. Programs like public schools, and headstart, trying to educate people so they can help themselves - opposed by Republicans.

James 2 seems to be an example of Republicans, who have policies that favor the rich at the expense of working people.

James 2: "My brethren, do not hold the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with partiality.
For if there should come into your assembly a man with gold rings, in fine apparel, and there should also come a poor man in filthy clothes, and you pay attention to the one wearing the fine clothes and say to him "you sit here in a good place" and say to the poor man "you stand there", or "sit here at my footstool." have you not shown partiality among youselves and become judges with evil thoughts?

Listen, my beloved brethren: has God not chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him? But you have dishonored the poor man. Do not the rich oppress you and drag you into the courts? Do they not blaspheme that noble name by which you are called? If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture "you shall love your neighbor as yourself" you do well; but if you show partiality, you commit sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors."

Luke 16: 19 tells the story of a beggar Lazarus and a rich man, traditionally called Dives. How is the Republican party which takes away from people like Lazarus in order to give big tax cuts to people like Dives not against "Christian moral principles"?

If both the Democratic and Republican parties are imperfect, and neither one of them is "God's Own Party" then why wouldn't you want to encourage Christians to be the mustard seed in the Democratic party?

20. The same reason those disgusting bishops only argue to deny communion to Dems.
It's not about religion, it's about politics.

The sooner the people who like religion learn it's a tool used to steer them around like sheep, the better.
