Conservative radio hosts gets waterboarded, and lasts six seconds before saying its torture
http://rawstory.com/blog/2009/05/conservative-radio-hosts-waterboarded/

Chicago radio host Erich "Mancow" Muller decided he'd get himself waterboarded to prove the technique wasn't torture.

It didn't turn out that way. "Mancow," in fact, lasted just six or seven seconds before crying foul. Apparently, the experience went pretty badly -- "Witnesses said Muller thrashed on the table, and even instantly threw the toy cow he was holding as his emergency tool to signify when he wanted the experiment to stop," according to NBC Chicago.

"The average person can take this for 14 seconds," Marine Sergeant Clay South told his audience before he was waterboarded on air. "He's going to wiggle, he's going to scream, he's going to wish he never did this."

1. I just watched the video a few minutes ago -- I give him props for admitting he was wrong
He said he had drowned (and been revived) as a child, and that waterboarding felt EXACTLY like when he drowned.

That long?
Just tying me down would be enough...knowing what was to come would be overwhelming.

At least I admit I'm a wuss...unlike the FAUX NEWS team..."just a dunking"

20. My nephew, a Navy pilot, was waterboarded at SERE
"school". He tapped with his feet to indicate he was "done." And was told, done? We haven't even started yet! My son, a Marine lasted the longest in his group...which he attributed to being an avid swimmer/scuba diver. But he said it was absolutely horrible. Definitely torture. And he would have said anything to get them to stop. Anything. So much for reliable information.

Now repukes are going to get ass-raped for entertainment to see if it's torture too, except they'll last for hours on that one.

12. A very, very important point to make about these "trials"...
Props to Mancow for the honesty, HOWEVER on the point of these "trials"...

The whole point of these "tests" is that when it's REALLY done, THE SUBJECT DOESN'T HAVE A "SAFE" WORD TO STOP IT.

That's the WHOLE POINT OF IT *BEING* TORTURE.

Let's see ANY defender of waterboarding submit to it WITHOUT AN "OUT" and THEN say it's not torture.

And not only can they not stop it, it isn't some guy they met five minutes ago at the water cooler doing it. It isn't one of their guys with their flag on his arm. Oh, and this one was in the DJ's own building!

33. The waterboarding is only part of it.
Long before then you're detained. If it was done through 'extraordinary rendition', then being detained involves them grabbing you, taking you to an intermediate location in the said country, cutting your clothes off with a scissor, getting a tranquilizer suppository shoved into your rectum, diapers put on, a jumpsuit put on, a hood put on, then you're chained in a stress position while being transferred. From there you're thrown into a cell where you will receive food or water sporadically. You will receive beatings that may 'merely' involve losing consciousness, or your death if the guards get a little too enthusiastic. If it's the latter, your death will be an accident. Loud music will play for days and days in a room that is baking hot, then water will be doused on you and shoved, probably naked, into a freezing cold room. You will go without sleep for days at a time, and forced to stand in one position for hours until you break. Then you will be beaten. Repeat this for days or weeks. All this is interspersed with various humiliations.

THEN you get waterboarded.

24. Exactly. The situations are not comparable
the SERE participants have the support of each other, the instructors, and the knowledge that they can stop the waterboarding. And yet, my son says his heart was beating wildly when he was strapped down and his head was covered. We are not advocating "coddling" prisoners. We are advocating what George Washington advocated: treating prisoners with dignity. It's about us. It's about what we stand for as Americans. This is barbaric. AND uneffective.
It makes no sense.
The macho talk coming from Cheney, Hannity, Limbaugh, and others is ludicrous. They are clueless.

25. Does anybody else look at these videos
and wonder what the big deal is?

Let me qulaify that by saying I believe that it's torture, it just doesn't look like it would be torture. It seems that all you have to do is hold your breath for awhile. Or is there more to it?

26. Oh brother -- IT'S FORCED DROWNING
Please quit believing the RW talking points out there, and read up on what waterboarding is: forced drowning. You literally drown you, while you're tied down and blind.

30. Way more to it
Fear of drowning is way deep in our lizard brain. Water at the top of the sinuses makes one think they are drowning. You can reason all you want but it is instinctual.

32. Holding your breath via your mouth is one thing, but you cannot close your nostrils. The water is
poured directly down your nose since you are head down, feet elevated, and the water floods your nasal passage and then streams directly into your throat. You try to counteract that by breathing through your mouth, but the water then enters your throat. It is drowning without being submerged.

36. They will punch you in the gut if they see you holding your breath. They
also submerge a victim's head in a toilet or tub and then punch or kick them in the gut or ribs so they will inhale the water.

The reaction to having your nose and mouth filled with water is involuntary. Your body believes you are drowning. You lose all control.

If they do it too long you can suffer brain damage.

40. You can't hold your breath.
It's 100X worse when you're being forcefully waterboarded. The element that's lost in waterboarding simulations is the fear.

31. In spite of his claim and experience to him it wasn't the same as torture because
he volunteered and could stop it anytime he wanted. For him it was a game and a publicity stunt, one in which he apparently bet and lost but it wasn't the same as receiving torture from someone holding power over you.

So nothing he could do actually approached what a prisoner, or POW went through either physically or psychologically.

There is good reason water torture has been defined as torture for decades, because it is.
