The "News" for Progressives...the Nightly News you won't see Anywhere Else...
http://www.democracynow.org/

At the very end don't miss News from Native Americans and what they are bringing to the table.

I think the whole thing was balanced...certainly NOT what you'd see on the CABLE/MSM/NETWORKS reports tonight.

It's a bit of a long watch but don't most of us cry out for more detailed news? If you want it...More Detailed News with info you don't see anywhere else...here's the Friday Roundup:

2. We live out in the boonies. No cable, no telephone
The only way to get tv here is DishTV (forget direct tv satellite, that was murdoch I don't know if it still is, dish has better/more)
Dish has Link, FSTV(FreeSpeechTV) Colors.
Link has news from Deutch Welle from Brussels with European news, Journal and a couple other programs that cover Mideast in English , and Democracy Now!
FSTV has Democracy Now!, Keynote (wish speakers such as Naomi Klein, Greg Palast, Jeremy Scahill and many other liberal speakers)
Colors has programming from India and China in English and also cultural programming.
Dish also carries CCTV9, that is a Chinese state sponsored news, culture, history, in English.
What really kind of twists my nipples is that I can get more truth from CCTV than from MSNBC a lot of times. I watch as many of the different programs to kind of triangulate what is really going on.
We love our DishTV..yea sounds like a paid advert..no we pay for the service, way more betta than Time/Warner or Comcast, Storer etc.

3. Sounds like you have access to Democracy Now...and you get better that those of us
who pay for cable and get washed over PAP! Good on You that you get better where you live. And, if you are here on DU with something upgraded from "Dial Up" you can get Goodman's site on your Computer without much trouble.

On the other hand...if I didn't have my Computer and DSL...I would be left to my "Time Warner Feed" which is CNBC/MSNBC/Faux/CNN and the Whores of the Networks to get my news.

Maybe that's why Americans are like SHEEP...going after the "Hot Babes" or "Oprah?" on the Tier One and Two Cables they pay for. How long can we pay for extra to get Football/Baseball/Hockey and Golf for the Tier One and Two...and IGNORE the NEWS that keeps us CITIZENS for Participatory Democracy?

WHRE IS THE REAL NEWS?

5. I got side tracked(have surgery scheduled for Tues, i was fretting over that)
Yes, we use Wild Blue it's satellite broadband, it works way better than Time warners so called broad band it has its drawbacks. It goes out during heavy weather and some times the atmospherics mess with it around Sunrise or Sunset.
We get better service for a price, but it has been worth it.

You can get DishTV just about anywhere in the world these days.
There isn't even dial up on the landline, that is two wires buried under our dirt road. We had it shut down as the price kept rising for worse and worse service.

We have the best of all worlds here. Live in Green Acres and can talk to the 21st century.
Our little farm stead was part of a tobacco plantation that ran for 270 years.
Our house is a modular on the site of the old barn.

The really wild thing is that I had never ever even been to Caswell County NC before the day I came to see this place, it was kind of forlorn and abandoned.
After we decided to take it (such a bargain!) we find I have family connections to the place.

We have the DishTV top 250 package, it has a bunch of sports, but I don't care for sports I want to know the real news of what the hell is going on.
I believe that is a big part of what is wrong with Americans the Bread and Circus mind set.

It does cost, but we don't eat out a lot, we grow a good bit of our own food, trade with neighbors for eggs n honey, have a local farmer we buy grass fed beef from.
We lived in Fort Lauderdale til after the 2000 election theft and post 911 outsourcing, partner worked for an aircraft parts company across the street from the Enquirer (anthrax attack that killed people).

We did not make the decision to move to the sticks lightly or quickly. We had it in mind for several years. His loosing his job, me becoming disabled were the last in a long line of BS things that happened and we decided to take our lives in our own hands...we really did not have a lot of options. We are happy somewhat saner (we think, but others don't). We both grew up in the country so it was like coming home to us.

I would rather have chickens and guineas and our 4 dogs out in the yard than the drug dealers we had to cope with in Fla. Actually we have a lot of wild life out here. The neighbors are great, they did not even turn a hair when they found out we were gay.

neighbors.

BTW...check out renting "Moving Midland" from Netflix or wherever you can find it about NC Roots and Ghosts (since you find you might have roots here in NC) and...like you, I grew up country so know about that "returning to that kind of life" but I live in Raleigh...after moving around quite a bit.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Moving from Florida...amazing... My daughter's down there and she says that so many Floridians are moving to NC ...mostly to the Mountains. She lives in Boca...so it's kind of different about what those folks think is "moving rural."

Anyway...glad you are settled, and thanks for the tips on what you are viewing and how you get access.

I will check out. I knew we had the old Soviet Type "Pravda" during last part of Clinton Admin. through Bush years and now it continues through Obama. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! We Americans need DIVERSE OPINIONS.

I'll post the "Moving Midland" documentary to you when I find it. You and your partner might find it interesting.

And best (((vibes))) to you on your upcoming surgery.
