I could be way off base, and I confess that up front.
It is true that people of both persuasions hold odd, unscientific views.
I definitely hold many, and am not shy about saying that I do. But I would never even consider trying to persuade someone else to believe what I believe, or set into motion legislation that could affect others who believe differently.
It would never even occur to me to influence others...
This is not true of Republicans. They wish to harmonize private, unscientific, religion-based concepts with legislation because they have this idea that what is good for them is good for all of us.
I think that is the main difference.
Speaking for myself: I don't think it's odd to have unscientific beliefs, but I do think it is odd to interpose one's unscientific beliefs upon those who do not believe what you believe.
If that makes sense.
