So should Obama appoint Jesus to the Supreme Court?
Edited on Sun May-24-09 09:26 AM by Cyrano
Let's face it. No matter who Obama selects to fill Justice Souter's Supreme Court seat, the Republicans will launch a well planned propaganda campaign that will match a ten point earthquake on the Richter Scale.

Over the years, the Republicans (aided by Dem votes) have created a Supreme Court that will screw us for decades. Roberts, Alito, Thomas, Scalia, and far too often Kennedy, turn the meaning and intent of the constitution (and justice itself) on it's head.

Whoever Obama selects, it's not going to change the balance of the court. Souter has consistently been one of the four sane Justices.

Nonetheless, we are on the verge of a great piece of Washington theatrics in which whomever Obama selects will be portrayed by Republicans as the essence of evil.

And even though his nominee will be eventually be approved, perhaps this might present us with an opportunity to point out Republican hypocrisy to Americans who still don't get it. I don't know if this is possible, but it may be worth the shot for some courageous Dems to speak out forcefully during the hearings, against the Supreme Court propaganda the Republicans have been spewing for decades.

On the other hand, Republicans are masters at demonizing people. And what I fear most is that they'll manage to really tar the new supreme court justice before he (or more likely she) is even seated.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to stop the thugs dead in their tracks and expose the tons of bullshit they're getting ready to dump on the nominee? They can't be prevented from peddling their crap, but isn't there some way to point out the shallowness, hatred and poison that they constantly sell to the American public?

4. It wouldn't matter.
Obama could nominate Adolph Hitler, and the Republicans would call him a socialist and threaten to filibuster the nomination.

Obama should nominate a left-wing lunatic. The Republicans will fight the nominating, regardless. If they succeed in derailing the first nomination, Obama should nominate a democratic-socialist. After that a communist ... until the Republicans get tired and give up.

7. Judges wear robes. Since Jesus wore a dress, doesn't that count as "experience?"
