3. And don't forget consuming a FRIGHTENING amount of bad beer and tobacco!
On the other hand, NASCAR might be the only thing keeping the economy going in some areas.

4. RIIIIIGHT, in your perfect world we would all be anti-fun Calvinists, eh?
This kind of attitude is the modern secular version of the Puritans who thought anything fun and enjoyable was sin.

5. I'm not a Calvinist. I just don't get it.
I have been to races before. I understand the hoopla, and the festival atmosphere. Almost anything in the way of a gathering can be fun for the crowd scene. But the racing itself? I don't get it. I don't get the celebrity aspect of the drivers.

BTW- I don't get the Kentucky Derby either. Seems like a lot of hoopla for a 2 minute race.

8. If they want to be about the future they should run the race on new fuels
Hydrogen might be something they could try.

LOL

10. Far, FAR more will be consumed on Tuesday's commute to work across the nation
Indy 500 and car racing in general consume a drop in the bucket compared to a normal day in the life of the country. It's okay to just enjoy a car race, if that's your thing.

13. Yeah, telecommuting has really just not happened.
Edited on Sun May-24-09 02:26 PM by imdjh
People want to take these drastic measures- including some who demand that we immediately shift to fledgling, emerging, nonexistent, or not going to happen technology. Meanwhile, a huge change which could save billions of gallons of fuel and amount to a salary raise for millions of American workers isn't being made. Why? Because self serving dysvisionary button punching middle managers (who are technically unskilled labor) think that if telecommuting comes to the world of cubicles that their school marm methods will soon be regarded as obsolete.
