I watched the 30 minute video. Maybe Pakistan is lost to the Taliban already.

1. Where is Osama? Where is Al Qaeda? Why are we fighting the Taliban now?
Edited on Sun May-24-09 06:13 PM by L0oniX
Did the Taliban attack us on 9/11? It's all smoke and mirrors and most of all ...it's the ever morphing bull shit!

2. I didn't plan on getting into this particular discussion.
But in the video the interviewer asked the child recruiter for the Taliban if it was ok to use children to wage war. He replied that you use what ever god provides you with, so using children as young as 5 or 6 or 7 is fine because god provided them.Basically it is gods will.
So what happens when the Taliban get their hands on Pakinstans nukes?

7. We are still fighting the Taliban because Bush pulled the troops

out of Afganistan to fight Saddam Hussein in Iraq. We were winning in Afghanistan and the Taliban was almost defeated. Now they have the lead, again.

9. We are still fighting the Taliban because that's what happens
when you attempt to occupy a place like Afghanistan. Iraq was stupid, but it is not why we are still fighting in Afghanistan, it's just why we didn't waste more lives and money in Afghanistan.

3. IMO the few thousand Taliban from 28 million Pashtun don't present a major threat to Pakistan's
167+ million population with a standing modern military with 650k troops.

It's more likely the administration is fueling media hysteria to cover Obama's increase of troops in Afghanistan using unconventional tactics producing more collateral damage aka murdering innocent citizens.

4. You might want to watch the video.
It gave me every reason to believe the Taliban have a plan for expansion that works really well.
The Swat valley has been given to them now because they couldn't be stopped.
They move into a town like a dangerous gang. Make their demands on the community, publically execute a few people who stand up to them, destroy the schools, then offer their own schools for the young boys to go to. When the military retaliates they blame the military for the death and destruction, and invite children to join their war against the unjust military. And their numbers go up.

10. Without US involvement, the Pak government will probably leave the Pashtun alone as long as they

remain in their traditional tribal areas.

Venture outside or threaten Pakistan in general and expect devastation of Pashtun areas.

In Afghanistan, there are 13 million Pashtun in a total population of 33 million.

With or without US involvement, a civil war is probable in Afghanistan.

You will probably have several other posts with various opinions.

Take your pick on which sounds more believable.
