Bill Maher comes out for creation of a new political party...seriously!
Well, as seriously as Maher can be that is. In the video interview about half-way in he seriously says that the republican Party is for all practical purpose gone, that the Democratic Party has become in fact and deed what the old Republican Party used to be, the party of corporist interests. He suggests that what is needed is a new party to arise with the values and goals of the old Democratic Party. Perhaps this should be a poll, but I am new around here, and so will leave the sophisticated stuff to others.

8. In Before The Lock
Not insider, pretty common actually.

Third party advocacy doesn't often go over well here abouts. Similar post locked earlier today in fact.

9. IBTL is as common as LOL around here, but I had to ask when I joined.

Ones I had to look up were "nt" for "no text" and "eom" for "end of message".

eta(edit to add): Welcome to DU.

2. We are doing quite well as is...the Dem Party needs a bit house cleaning
for sure, but over all its doing quite well..

A new party will be a target for them Pubs to infiltrate easier than what they are doing now...remember Carl Sheeler?

5. It's been bandied about some, but I think it's premature...
"Cleaning house" in the Democratic Party as it is seems remarkably difficult, considering that the party apparatus doesn't really allow that sort of democratic nonsense and even a fair portion of the people here don't really see a need.

Here's why I think it's essential.

10. He's right. Congress has become a wholly owned subsidiary of big bidness.
With Dems like Ben Nelson, Evan Bayh, and Max Baucus - who needs Republicans?

I'll believe in housecleaning when I see it.

the drooling-idiocy-fascist party. Time for a better choice!

13. The Greens have proven that they can't organize for shit
and the average person still thinks they're a single issue environmental party because of the name. Bill Maher isn't going to be the one to start it though.

16. The Republicans are still there. I see them everyday and a hundred times on Sunday.
His thought is not wrong just ahead of it's time.hat he wants is just what we have now, division amongst those who believe in governance, counterbalanced with chaos.

We must destroy the Republicans before we can possibly move on to real debates between real representatives.

20. Better idea: A faction in the Dem Party, running candidates in primaries.
Edited on Mon May-25-09 05:58 PM by L. Coyote
Starting with opposition to candidates like Max Baucus!
Baucus raised a record amount of money for his 2008 re-election bid,
91 percent of which has come from individuals living outside of Montana.

Any REAL Montanans out there????

23. He also said in 2000 that there was no difference between Bush and Gore, and supported Nader
I like the guy but I don't respect his opinion on politics. He is friends with Ann Coulter and helped give her a platform back on this "Politically Incorrect" TV show.

He is pretty funny, but should stick to the shtick
