From now on, after hearing someone else suggest it, I will no longer call it "waterboarding."

Waterboarding is now, for me, called "The Drowning Torture."

1. waterboarding sounds like an amusement park ride.
Or something you do at summer camp. No doubt that was intentional. I'll call it drowning torture as well.

7. No, no, no. The beach.
That little round board you can throw down in 4 inches of water as the wave comes in and you skim along the foam until the water runs back and you ground the board in the sand and wind up stumbling a few feet before landing face down in the wet sand.

That's waterboarding.

15. That's Torture Too...

Tried that as a teenager - it takes the skin right off of your body and stings for days.

2. They renamed torture "enhanced interrogation technique"...
So let's rename it "drowning torture" as well.

5. ...and they renamed terrorism "man-caused disaster"
and Global War on Terror as Overseas Contingency Operations.

It's the same political pant-load as usual; both left and right do it. It seems like the right does it ten times as much, but then, they probably feel the arrow points the other way.

For my two cents, all that a euphemism does is cause me to notice someone's trying to hide something, and wonder why.

11. Yes but "Drowning torture" is non-PC, straight to the point
It reminds me of what Carlin was saying in one of his sketches.

PTSD used to be called shell shock and then combat fatigue.

12. It's "WATER TORTURE"
I guess they've done a really good job of eliminating this terminology since you think you need to invent a new term for it.

It always has been "Water Torture", and it always will be.

13. Is water torture the drip on the forehead thing?
Drowning torture is what it is. We are going to make you believe you're drowning so that you become scared and then use your fear to break you.

As a drowning survivor (I was pinned on the beach floor by rolling waves in Brittany as a child and my brother pulled me out), it's not only scary, but painful, especially when you basically breathe in water through your noise (your reflex is always to close your mouth but, unlike hippos or dolphins, we cannot close our nostrils/breathing holes), usually from being upside down or as an ultimate panic reflex, when your body, as it is struggling, is asking for more oxygen.

No I did not see my life pass before my eyes, I saw lots of blurry blue and then my brother's hand.

3. When I was a kid...
There was something called "The Chinese Water Torture" which was describes as dripping water on someone's head. Supposedly, no one could resist it -- it would drive you mad. I wonder if this was the same thing.

16. I get the impression

...that they didn't want to give kids a precise description.

What is worrisome about the demonstrations on YouTube etc. that are popping up, is whether it is going to turn up as a fraternity hazing rite next fall.

4. On the flip side.....
perhaps the rape/sodomy torture could have another name.

When someone condones waterboarding, I want to shift to the even more heinous acts they haven't heard about as yet.

"Waterboarding? Cheney has such a way with words. I guess the rape and sodomy, including of minors, was known as Fucking for Freedom?"

I know they ordered it, not only turned a blind eye to the systemic use of rape and sexual abuse, but ordered it in so many words. It makes me physically ill. :puke:

I hated even typing that, but I'm so angry. The criminals make a mockery of the honorable.

14. Because Congress is more of a club than a representative body.
Investigating would be so messy. So revealing. And why start now? The Warren Commission was nearly a half century ago. It's hard to believe. Not a speck of truth out of these clowns.

I'm not sure we can measure any progress. From dunking supposed witches, to drowning Iraqis.
