Girl taught that minorities should die
A Manitoba social worker, who is the first witness at the girl's custody hearing, also said the child once arrived at school with a swastika written on her body.

Other white supremacist symbols and phrases had also been written on her body, the court was told.

The girl and a sibling were taken from the family by provincial child services officials after the schooling incident.

The custody hearing will also hear arguments from the girl's stepfather, who contends it is his constitutional right to pass his beliefs onto his children.

Neither the witness nor the family can be identified under Manitoba law.

2. What do you do with that?
How is it different from the other 90-thousand whacko belief systems out there? How is it different from the fundies who teach their kids gays are of the devil?

3. Put them on an island
People who are anti-social need to be put where (civilized) society won't be such a burden on them.

4. Tough call
Yes parent should generally be left to raise their kids. But obviously we have a right to step in (as a nation) when there is abuse going on. And raising them in this manner could certainly be considered an abuse.

But it is a slippery slope, once you accept that it's ok to take away someones kids because they are raising them with "the wrong beliefs" that's open to alot of abuse by overzealous bureaucrats and lawyers.

9. Adoptive parents and step parents are two **very** different things
A step parent has no legal rights to parent the kid. The blood parent can, however, delegate certain things in some jurisdictions (<---- said by a step parent - me)

11. So if couple "A" gets married
Edited on Mon May-25-09 09:55 PM by JonQ
has a kid, then husband A dies, wife A remarries step-dad B. You're saying only the mom would have any say in how the child is raised? And at any point a government official may take the child out of the custody of step-dad B (even in the absence of legally defined abuse)?

Step parents may have fewer rights, I suppose, but to say they have none is not exactly fair, or I think, legally correct.

12. It's causing quite a controversy in Canada
The social workers are claiming that the girl was removed from the parents for protection from exposure to drug abuse.

Some questions are being asked about whether a child can be taken for their parent's belief system.

But when the girl was questioned about the permanent ink writings on her body, she said "All the n*****s have to die".
Then she suggested how that should be done, referring to how Hitler did it.

The father has now split and the mother is left to answer questions from the press.

People are asking if the girl should be removed for the racist teachings alone.
