Sonia Sotomayor : Harriet Miers
Sonia Sotomayor : Harriet Miers

Apparently some of the bright lights of the right have decided that the best way to establish the deficiencies of Obama's choice for the Supreme Court is to compare her to W's choice of Harriet Miers for the same position. I think they are right.

My daughter has been learning about analogies in school. Lets play:

Sonia Sotomayor is to Harriet Miers as:

Barack Obama : George W. Bush

Princeton summa cum laude : SMU (no honors)

Yale law review : SMU law school(no honors)

Prosecutor for Morgenthau : no criminal law experience

6 years as Federal District Court Judge : No judicial Experience

10 years on 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals : No judicial Experience

adjunct professor NYU School of Law : advisory board SMU law school

Obama - "Blown away" : Bush - blown kisses

Democrat : Republican

works for me

from DK comments:

Confirmed : Rejected (Ezekial)

Hillary Clinton : Sarah Palin (scotths)

best choice : best friend (accumbens)

Thurgood Marshall : Clarence Thomas (feeny)

James Lee Witt : 'Heckuva Job' Brownie (vawolf)

Rachel Maddow : Mika Brzezinski (denig)

Daily Kos : Red State (checkmate)

see how easy this is!

Ramesh Ponnuru supposedly started this comparison but if you follow the link from NRO he doesn't actually ever say it

Here's some of what we know about President Obama's nominee to the Supreme Court:

--Judge Sotomayor believes that the courts are "where policy is made."

--She has Democratic colleagues who wonder if she has the intellect to be on the high court.

--She was picked by a president who has announced that he has a pro-abortion litmus test and that he wants judges who will rule with empathy, at least for some groups.

--She has a high reversal rate. In one case, the Supreme Court has voted unanimously to reverse her.

We will doubtless learn more about Sotomayor, both good and bad, in the days to come. But based on the early signs it appears that President Obama has made the crassest of political picks.

What do you think?
