That's what Dubya said in discussing the torture of prisoners under our control. He did it for you. Why are you so ungrateful?
========================

"I vowed to take whatever steps that were necessary to protect you," Bush said.

'"The first thing you do is ask, what's legal?" he said. "What do the lawyers say is possible? I made the decision, within the law, to get information so I can say to myself, 'I've done what it takes to do my duty to protect the American people.' I can tell you that the information we got saved lives."

1. Maybe he should have finished his National Guard duty
and then he might have some respect for the international laws that protect soldiers form torture. Who knows.

2. The first thing you do is ask....
"What can I do to cover my own ass?" First of all, I need to persuade the people that what I did was "legal". I'll get my "gophers" in the legal office to give me cover. Then I will tell the people that I did it to protect them from the terrorists. Who could possibly disagree with that?

3. My question would be How did water boarding become "legal"?
Edited on Fri May-29-09 10:31 AM by Winterblues
It was illegal after WW II when we prosecuted people for it, it was illegal during the Vietnam Conflict when we prosecuted and court marshalled people for it, so when and how did it suddenly become "legal"?
