Newt Gingrich does not seem to be deterred by the new message of the Republican leadership, such as Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), that he and Rush Limbaugh should stop calling Sonia Sotomayor a racist.

Gingrich has now sent out a fundraising e-mail, asking for help to send blast faxes to every member of the Senate demanding that the Sotomayor nomination be defeated. He even says that she shouldn't even get a vote in the Senate, but should just have to withdraw.

Gingrich warns that all of American civilization is at stake here. "If Civil War, suffrage, and Civil Rights are to mean anything, we cannot accept that conclusion," he writes. "It is simply un-American. There is no room on the bench of the United States Supreme Court for this worldview."

8. Gingrich is trying to pull a Nixon here.

He's wagering that Sotomayor can be made into a symbol representing the end of white, anglo American civilization as we know it, and that if he and his fellow fascists succeed in scaring the bejeeziz out of the slave states, they'll come out in swarms to vote Republicans back into power.

I think he's totally wrong. I wonder where he's getting his confidence to make such a wager from.

The MSM has been treating the GOP-crazy with too much respect, for so long, that they think they're legitimate.

Ah, that whole "will of the people" thing is overrated, anyway. Why shouldn't Newt Gingrich be the one to order American society? He's a Catholic now, you know. And from the South. Did you know he's white? Used to be an elected official, too. I sure hope he's able to get his views on this aired or published; there's just no country and no media for strongly opinionated people in Mr. Gingrich's mold.
