Weatherization people coming to my house today thanks to Obama's ARRA
I applied for weatherization for my house about two weeks ago through the Alabama recovery.gov site and there are people coming today to test our windows, heating and air conditioning, etc. I will comment later on how it goes.

My biggest concern is my windows. The wood in between the panes of glass is rotting and falling apart.

2. my husband checked on weatherization here in ny.... and he said there was a three year waiting list
that was before the ARRA, though. Wonder if it is still that long.. Don't know if they'd help us again, as we had a trailer they weatherized for us, put in new windows and gave us a new fridge. but the windows were the same thing, and didn't do much of anything. they replaced a door too. about a year later our house burned down. uggh. we also had gotten a new furnace from HEAP, i think maybe.

3. I applied two weeks ago...they told us it could be momths...but
they are here today. Testing refrigerator, checking windows, hot water heater, etc. They told me I'd probably get a new refrigerator. Mine is about 30 years old. Our heating and air conditioning is okay, it's the windows I'm concerned about.

The two guys are here, they are outside writing what seems like copious notes about my windows. As I said, they are literally falling apart. If I wash the windows, I have to hold the pane in place to keep it from falling out when I wash it.

I live in Birmingham which is of course not nearly as populous as New York but you should try again.

4. yeah, 30 years is pretty old. they want to make sure you have a more energy efficient
refrigerator. our refrigerator is about five years old, i think. so it should be fine. our windows are trailer windows and are just like the ones in the old trailer (which was a 76!) well, maybe not AS bad as those, but they are pretty bad at keeping the cold out. I wonder if the community action (or whatever they are in your area) have hired more people to meet demand. probably. glad to hear they have gotten to you so quickly, though. may be awhile to get the windows in, though... but it is summer, so... better than mid winter. LOL! yeah, we will probably try again soon.

5. well my refrigerator is doing okay they said...damnit
It is 30 years old and the magnetic strip that holds the doors closed on it are shot. But apparently it only costs about $87 a year to run. Grrrrr. Stupid refrigerator that still works efficiently. Hah.
