1. All safe over here in Arvada...
I just got back from the store. Just a little sprinkle and broken clouds. I saw the Tornado Warning on TV and it was dark to the north and east.

I hope everyone is safe..

2. Got some pea sized hail here.
And one of those high storms where it thunders constantly for an hour.

Only damage is a few holes in my pepper plant's leaves.

3. Er...
As a future resident of possibly Aurora or Glendale, are tornadoes like this common? I'm accustomed to earthquakes and wildfires, but tornadoes...yikes! :scared:

5. They're pretty rare here unless you're living out on the eastern plains.

7. Oh, good.
Everyone said the same...it's a rather rare event for the Front Range.

8. Don't sweat it. I grew up in Tornado Alley...
and tornadoes are only a problem if they're right on top of you. I'm 10 miles away from Aurora and the sun was shining here. They're very localized.

6. It's all relative...
We have tornados in Minnesota, too, but I look around as I drive through St. Paul, and see how many houses there are here that have stood, undamaged for over a century. Yes, there is a risk, but...

Same thing everywhere. Floods, earthquakes, tornados, hurricanes. There is no risk-free place on this planet. It's all part of living in a chaotic environment. You can do your best to build safe buildings, and that's about it. That's why almost every house here has a basement. I go into mine at least a couple of times a year when the tornado sirens go off. There it is. That's where I live. Before I moved here I lived about 50 air miles from the San Andreas fault.
