Former Health Commissioner of Philadelphia now speaking. To critics who say that single payer is to "radical" he says that our country was founded on radical ideas.

Stumbling and mumbling his answers. " Er...uh...oh, that's a good question." The Chairman says "Well that's why I asked it." The audience laughs at the fool from the M.I.

On WJ Dean followed Dr. Coburn (Sen.-OK)and was played a clip of Dr. Gingrey (Rep.-GA). He said at least Coburn presents an intelligent, if very wrong, argument. Gingrey on the other hand is so misinformed Dean worries what would happen to his patients if Gingrey was still in practice.

Rep. Tom Price is a Republican of 6th district of NC.

Maybe it was a mix-up, but it sure is funny that it happens to D's a lot,
particularly when it makes us look bad or in opposition to many in our own party.

As I said in the above, I am very disappointed in this hearing. This is likely to be the only chance single payer advocates will be heard and the almost lack luster statements are falling short of what we need at this time: strong persausive arguments FOR single payer.

49. I have to agree with you. Somewhat lack luster statements.
They should have had the guys who were on the Moyers show. Those two doctors would have been great witnesses. Or a few of the doctors from Physicians for single payer group would have been nice. And that ringer they put in who is against single payer, what's that all about? So, yes, I am somewhat disappointed also.

The House HELP Subcmte. is holding a hearing examining the merits of a single-payer health care plan, which calls for a single insurance plan to pay for medical costs nationwide. A panel of health care experts, physicians and medical scholars testify in favor and opposition of the legislation.

71. Gratzer looks like something that crawls out from under a rock...
...and swills in the slime.

77. Conyers wanted to bring Dr. Angell to the WH summit - she was not
allowed to attend.

:(

concluded.

80. Do you have the feeling that this was...
...a "throw the doggie a bone" production?

85. Unfortunately yes...my thinking is that the tone for excluding SP
advocates started with the WH summit and was continued by Baucus, now at the 11th hour they bring in a few people to say "you were allowed to speak"

Once HC reform is passed we'll hear more about controlling entitlement costs.

:(

JMHO but I think in the years ahead we will see strong competition for HC dollars and also for doctors, hope I am wrong.

:hi:

84. Thanks for the thread. Yes it's over. The second half was better.
Especially when Dennis K. handed Gratzer his ass. It was a bit short, but at least a few good things managed to get in.

86. DK was totally amazing....
...that doctor got the "well, I AM the doctor look" and you could tell under his "calm" (more like rigid) exterior, he was seething. Best part of the hearing by far!

92. I couldn't help but notice the cynical title on C-Span
"Single Payer Plan Meets Resistance on Capitol Hill."

How about Single Payer Plan is Debated or Discussed on Capitol Hill?"

Which plan of any kind doesn't meet resistance on Capitol Hill?

How about quit giving the corporate supremacists the damn frame!!
