A letter to the Belgian Embassy regarding Sam Fox:
I have this in my email que ready to send:

To: The Hon. Mr. Piet Heirbaut, First Secretary, Belgian Embassy to the United States, Washington DC
From: XXX X. XXXXX, XXX XXXX Street, City of XXXXX, State of XXXXXXX, The United States.
Subject: The recess appointment of Republican Party Fundraiser Sam Fox to be US Ambassador to Belgium

Dear Mr. Heirbaut,

I am certain that you are now aware of the recess "appointment" of Sam Fox, a Republican Party fundraiser to be US Ambassador to your country. It is with deep regret that I must inform you that the reason this person was appointed was as a political favor from the President to an individual of both dubious credentials and character, details of which may be seen in this bulletin from the Examiner group of news organizations: http://www.examiner.com/Topic-Belgium.html

This person is a businessman of the type in this country referred to as a "corporate raider," that is, his firm acquires and disposes of businesses piecemeal for profit only, and without regard to the consequences for employees, owner/investors, or community. In addition, his prodigious funding of a group strangely named "Swiftboat Veterans for Truth" (composed mostly of neither veterans nor people telling the truth) resulted in slanderous and untrue statements made to the detriment of Senator John Kerry during the 2004 Presidential Election. It should be noted that these falsehoods were never retracted by this group, or rejected by the Republican Administration.

The President has made this appointment with the Senate of the United States in recess to circumvent our process of advise and consent which assures that nominees to important political posts reflect the agreement of the people of the United States. This was done after the President retracted the nomination of Fox so as to avoid his inevitable rejection by the Senate in session.

As a private citizen of the United States, I urge your government not to accept the credentials of Sam Fox as United States Ambassador to Belgium. As your nation has always stood for the highest standards of diplomatic conduct, it is not in your best interest to accept a person who has the deficiencies in character and honest action of Sam Fox to be a diplomat dealing with your country.

With deepest regrets as to the conduct of the President of the United States in this matter,

Sincerely,

XXXXXX X. XXXXXX

The actual message has all of my real personal data: I just didn't want it available to all of our Freeper Friends or Agent Mike (he can probably find me anyway).

Does anyone think this is bad or out of line? If anyone else wants to contact this guy, feel free: I couldn't get an address for the ambassador, so I hope he sees this.

QUICK, before my email times out: should I send this? It's pretty radical.

7. I Say Go For It......
it is well composed and to the point. According to Wikipedia - Belgium has both a King and Prime Minister. You may also want to consider trying to get this to them as well. I suspect Fox will wind up in an embassy in Belgium. Might as well get the welcoming committee ready for him.

The Dutch had the same problems with Arnall. There was an outcry about his unsuitability, but in the end he was appointed.

Found this written last year

Translation:
Already a new US Ambassador in Brussels

Tom Korologos, the current Ambassador of the US in Belgium, will early next year be replaced by the 77 year old Sam Fox. Korologos who scarcely two and a half years ago came, was a good Friend of Donald Rumsfeld. Is it a coincidence that Korologos is leaving no sooner than a few weeks after the resignation of Rumsfeld? The predecessor of Korologos, Jeffrey Marcus never even arrived in Brussels: he quit before taking up his mandate.

(note: the word "ontslag" has several meanings depending on the context; it can be "fired" as well as "resigned" depending whether you are given or take)

The important thing to me it would seem, is that they get a letter from a private citizen about this. The fact that you are going to the First Secretary with this is good. It is appropriate for an ordinary citizen to take up contact at this level.

Any appointment from the Bush Administration is bound to be viewed with a jaundiced eye everywhere. The interesting thing is that none of the Bush appointees ever seem to have diplomatic experience.

12. Do it.
It will feel good. We are not helpless. Nothing stops us from taking on these criminals in the White House and holding them accountable by using our freedom of speech. These are the kinds of things the colonists did to needle the British during the American Revolution. :dem:

15. Send It To The Head of State of Belgium!
Send it to the head of state of Belgium (it may be a monarch -- like in Great Britain).

Send it also to the Head of the Belgian Government (like a Prime Minister).

Also, send it the the Foreign Minister of Belgium.

17. You should read the Logan Act first
§ 953. Private correspondence with foreign governments.
Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, with intent to influence the measures or conduct of any foreign government or of any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.
This section shall not abridge the right of a citizen to apply himself, or his agent, to any foreign government, or the agents thereof, for redress of any injury which he may have sustained from such government or any of its agents or subjects.
18 U.S.C. § 953 (2004).
