Double Standard? Leno Told Similar Joke As Letterman About Palin's Daughter
Alan Colmes (former co-host of Fox News' Hannity & Colmes) makes a great a catch regarding the current feud between David Letterman and Governor Sarah Palin. While Palin has been blasting Letterman all over the airwaves for joking about Yankees star Alex Rodriguez "knocking up" her daughter, Jay Leno told an extremely similar joke during the presidential campaign that resulted in no such uproar:

Gov. Palin announced over the weekend that her 17-year-old unmarried daughter is five months pregnant. And you thought John Edwards was in trouble before! Now he has really done it. -- "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno," 9/2/08

1. was Edwards ever in the same room as Bristol ???????
not that it matters but that's the stupidity of the Palin defenders talking about who was at the stupid game. as if it matters.

it doesn't matter who was at the game because the joke was aimed at that player and the pregnant daughter.

4. no logic with them

Letterman tapes his show around 5:30 p.m. Jokes written even before that Game started around 7 p.m.
How was Letterman or his writers supposed to know who was at the game? Faux outrage to distract from Palin's plagiarizing and her deal with the devil (Exxon) - nothing more. Poor Willow now bing associated with the words "statuatory rape" - words never uttered by Letterman, only by the Palins. She is a DISGRACEFUL mother and anyone who belives the babble from the whore of babbleland is an idiot.

edited for spelling.

Elections should include debates between the children of politicians. Than we could poke fun of all of their answers for weeks after.

2. Meghan Mccain's inclusion of
"that's why I like Jay Leno, you don't know where his politics are in his jokes" in her column about "OMG, THIS WOULD NEVER HAPPEN TO A DEMOCRAT" (well, it might as well have been called that) in the Daily Beast was especially funny after I read that Leno joke....again, I think a lot of Republicans are especially pissed at Dave Letterman because he exposed McCain as a fool. Not saying that it's right to joke about politician's children, but just on the other points.

9. Megan McCain has
become politically opinionated on a public level she has agreed to interviews and comments freely on politics. She has made herself fair game. She made a choice to join the meat grinder.

3. We should probably all
just start trashing every politicians children than it would be completely fair. After all don't kids pick there parents and shape their political views.

6. well, there are many threads debating that point
I think politician's kids should be off limits, but this thread isn't exclusively about that argument, though you bumped the thread to include it twice.

7. You are correct
I dont't like palins style of governing I don't care for some of her policies and i dislike her spineless party. But calling her a whore and dragging her children through the mud is something that would not cross my mind.

8. I won't call her a whore.
I will call her a weirdo and a political opportunist. It's one thing to defend your daughter, but the way she is doing it makes her seem disengenuous. I feel sorry for her kids.

12. Different daughter!
Leno was about Bristol who was pregnant, while Letterman was about Willow who is only 14.
