and prefer op-eds, please critique:
I want to thank you for running the Krugman op-ed “Bad mood on the right” in the Sunday, June 14th News and Observer. Many of us have noticed the divisive and dishonest rhetoric of news shows on Fox and radio personalities such as Rush Limbaugh and repetition of that rhetoric from some Republican elected officials. We also noticed it at the Palin campaign rallies last year.
Many of us have noticed an uptick in politically induced violence such as the shootings at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Tennessee, the shootings of college students from Chile in Florida, the Holocaust Museum, and the recent murder of Dr. Tiller. We support the DHS efforts to look into this to protect citizens. Citizens should not live in fear of each other.
It also affects many of us on a personal level. We no longer feel comfortable discussing politics whether at the dinner table or in the community and we even feel uncomfortable in church. Those of us that voted for change see little change even with the ridiculous “socialist” and “Marxist” rhetoric. The bailout of the financial sector without reregulation, for instance, still looks like the crony capitalism that brought us this mess. The rhetoric seems to have produced one party that always compromises and another party encouraged never to compromise. We want the intimidation from these sources to stop. We want our country back, please.
