Tehran University faculty resigns in protest at violence
119 members of the faculty have now quit, including an important figure in the field of electronic engineering. They're now demanding the university's president resign for failing to protect the students.

Something's got to give.

6. I think with all of the people on our payroll that would show up as its own
line-item in the budget. Haha. We must have hundreds of thousands on our payroll.

4. What is the total number of faculty members? 119 out of how many?

If the University is permanently closed, that is if this is a huge number, then this is far more than a simple protest..It could get very bad, or have a good result. Time will tell

7. Do you know what will give? The lives of the protesters.
They do not have a chance. Has the regime lost it's will to stay in power? Nope. Have they lost the security forces? Nope.

They will kill a bunch of protesters and be done with it. It is how these things work.

There were bigger protests 10 years ago and it was put down with many lives crushed. And here in America nobody cared.

The rulers of Iran think god appointed them to run the world. If you believe that then you see your enemies as intrinsically evil. Therefore crushing them is not only a good thing, but a moral obligation.

This will be crushed - and there is not a damn thing anyone here is going to do about it because nobody cares enough to put their lives on the line.

8. What do you mean?
Are you saying that if we don't put our own lives on the line for Iranians, that we don't care sufficiently about their welfare?

9. You know what? You are right and I was wrong
We are free to comment on the unfair election because we live in a free country.

It is profoundly unfair for me to say nobody cares because they won't go to iran to protest.

In my defense I should have said that nothing will be done to help these poor folks and we should not act like our actions will result in anything. I just see thousands of people forfeiting their lives and I am upset.

10. Yes, I completely agree - seeing the bloody photos and the violence is very disturbing.
And I hope Moussavi emerges victorious and that he cleans house at once.

11. If you thought God appointed you to rule, you wouldn't need to hold an election then falsify results
not exactly anointing. that's how i know those guys KNOW they are mere mortals.
