Long Island teen was killed by ex-con's handgun misfire, police say

Oops...

A promising suburban high school student partying with pals in Brooklyn was accidentally shot to death by a drunken ex-con who was showing off his handgun, police said Sunday.

Phillip Levy, 17, left his home in Wantagh, L.I., Saturday afternoon after telling his family that he was going for a drive with friends, police said.

He and his buddies made the fateful decision to visit Scott Bruno, a 33-year-old Bensonhurst bricklayer, police sources said.

As the three teenagers watched, a drunken Bruno started shooting his 9-mm handgun into the walls as a party trick - and inadvertently discharged a bullet into Phillip's head.

The teenager was killed instantly.

3. Drunk x-cons w/ guns. THAT sounds safe.
If only young Mr Levy had armed himself, this tragedy may have been avoided.

:sarcasm:

4. That's not a "misfire," that's negligent but intentional shooting.
A "misfire" is when the gun is supposed to fire, and doesn't. This clown was shooting his (doubly illegal) handgun on purpose and the gun was firing normally.

Sad for the young guy and his family, and for his friends.

The dumb ass intentionally shot the gun at a brick wall. Nothing "mis" about that fire.

How many laws were broken:
Purchase of firearm by felon.
Possession of firearm by felon.
Discharge of firearm within city limits
Use of firearm while intoxicated.
Reckless Endangerment
