Talk show host seems to have a disturbing obsession with Palin and her daughters

Face it: David Letterman, late-night entertainer turned partisan hack and hit man, has a deranged obsession with Palin and her family that has crossed into rank bigotry and hatred. If the CBS network cares about basic standards of decency on public airwaves and if it cares at all about bolstering its shrinking audience, the network honchos will get Letterman a therapist pronto.

What Letterman said and how he said it was wrong. But to characterize decades of good commentary with one joke is ridiculous. People like Letterman, Imus, and many others have to fill thousands and thousands of hours of space with commentary. If you talk all the time you are bound to say something that is not quite right at some point.

Calling for Letterman to be fired over one mistake is ridiculous. Nobody can live or work in a world where one tiny little infraction does away with a long and reputable career.
