Work to repeal DOMA! :D

And... hey! Imagine this: It won't just apply to federal employees' spouses! It'll apply to all Americans! If it's good enough for federal employees I fail to see why it isn't good enough for everyone else. Maybe I'm too cynical, but I'm having a lot of trouble seeing this as anything but an attempt to dig the Democratic party out of a hole now that they're at risk of losing some of their all-precious dollars from a fundraiser many of the big LGBT orgs are now boycotting.

1. As LostinVA put it, it's a "bad press band-aid"....nothing more.
I think it's just to get people going to that fundraiser again.....$$$$$$$$$$$$

6. And Obama has a role in pushing them to it.
Harry Reid can't even be bothered to scare up a co-sponsor for DADT repeal and supermajorities of Americans support that.

Or, at the very least, condemn that vile brief.

4. That's also what Politico is hearing.
(It's Politico , but hey, they report you decide...)

http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0609/Tobias_defends_administration_fundraiser.html?showall

"If this debacle of a brief represented the president's views, I'd boycott too," Tobias, who is organizing the fundraiser and has been one of the White House's most vocal gay defenders, said in an e-mail. " otally understand all the hurt and anger, thought Joe Solmonese<'s> letter to the president was spot on. Still personally totally believe in the president. His Pride Proclamation, and his call to repeal DOMA, are genuine."

Organizers, I'm told, are scrambling to get visible White House action on gay issues in advance of the June 25 dinner to prevent it from becoming a protest stage.
