Perhaps CNN is seeing this whole thing for what it is, which is most likely one (or both) of two things:

1) (obvious) The GOP and Palin are wearing the dual masks of "feminism" and "protect the children" (two things they historically care very little about, unless you are, in the first case, a solid member of their little Bohemian Grove or, in the second case, unborn) to play the PC card for everything they can milk out of it. Where's the media frenzy over recent very-public statements about the Obamas?

2) Somebody with a little pull over at CBS was taking some bong hits and watching "Network" on TCM a few weeks ago, as I was, and blew into work the next morning with the idea that, by employing the "Howard Beale" strategy, they could finally yank dominance in the ratings away from "The Tonight Show." This is in fact what has happened in the wake of Letterman's "gaffe."
