About Iran: as long as they're going to revolt....
I just wonder how many of the largest demographic, the youth, really want a theocracy, or in fact, even really support Mousavi. I suspect he was the "lesser" of the evils in their minds, but honestly, I don't know.

I wonder if they might seize the moment and go all out, for REAL change. If so, what would that be? Does anyone have any genuine insight into what the youth, the 20-30 year olds really, really want?

Notice Mousavi isn't the first on the list.

4. They list seven demands...
1. Remove Khamenei from supreme leader
2. Remove Ahmadinejad because he took it forcefully and unlawfully
3. Put Ayatollah Monazeri as supreme leader until a review of the constitution is set up
4. Recognize Mousavi as official president
5. Let Mousavi rule as the constitution is reformed
6. Free all political prisoners, immediately
7. Call off all secret militia and offices

1 and 3 are the key.

2, 4, and 5 are provisional: a new constitution would be the whole game.

Wish them luck!

2. 50 cents says homosexuality remains a capital offense- but you never know
The way things are going Iran might have complete civil rights for gay people before the US does.

5. I have a feeling throwing out the theocracy is going to take A LOT of bloodshed.
Those in power do not like to be removed from power. They are especially resistant if they think they represent God.

6. They may well be the largest demographic @c. 30%
Edited on Wed Jun-17-09 03:03 PM by dipsydoodle
but aggregate students are c. 5% of the total population and its that minority that the twitters whatever are coming from.

That leaves also a balance of 25% and chances are a high number of that age demographic are probably working class and may well be Ahmadinejad's supporters.

Wouldn't it better to wait and see what the rest of the population think / are doing before reaching a conclusion ?

Given the issues of 1953 I'd have thought the last thing any Iranian would want would be an American opinion.
