The therapy is called Stimuvax. Unlike traditional vaccines that prevent infection from pathogens, Stimuvax is what's called a therapeutic vaccine. It's designed to trigger an immune response that helps the body kill off its own cancer cells.


Stimuvax is thought to work by stimulating the body's immune system to identify and destroy cancer cells expressing MUC1. MUC1 is a protein antigen that is over-expressed in all cancer cells, including lung, breast and colorectal cancer.

ironically, the monkey that was supposed to set this off managed to keep one man alive ... Yorick ... and it was found that it was due to the genetically engineered monkey's feces which saved the males.
