House probe of covert CIA program could target Cheney
By John Byrne

Published: July 20, 2009

Vice President Dick Cheney isn’t out of the reeds just yet.

In a little noticed statement Friday, the House Intelligence Subcommittee on Intelligence and Investigations announced they will begin a full investigation into charges that the CIA misled congress about a covert spy operation that had been going on for nearly 8 years before it was canceled by CIA Director Leon Panetta last month.

“The House Intelligence Committee will move forward with a full investigation that will explore certain CIA programs and the core issue of how the committee is kept informed,” Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), the committee’s chairwoman, said in a statement late Friday.

“My subcommittee will take the lead on significant portions of the investigation;” the congresswoman continues. “We will explore instances where the Congress was not informed in a timely way and situations in which laws may have been broken.”

The New York Times has reported that Cheney ordered the CIA to conceal from lawmakers a spy program aimed at eliminating Al Qaeda members.

1. But it's congress
The Cheney/Bush crowd spits in congress's face and all congress does is say "you better not do that again".

4. I believe nothing that comes out of
Congress. "We are going to this; we are going to do that; My subcommitte will take the lead." That is just more "busy work" to lull us into thinking they will actually perform. It is all BS. When I see Dick Cheney in front of Congress under oath and admitting to his evil ways I might believe it. The plot line was carried out in the farce that was Bush/Cheney. It will still be Lucy and Charlie Brown with the football.

5. Why not Bush as well?
I find it interesting how Bush is simply never mentioned in these issues. Was he the President or not?

7. It's weirdly interesting isn't it?
The most positive spin I can put on it is they are trying to put pressure on Cheney first, to fracture any allegiance they still have to each other.

If they go for Cheney and then stop there I'll know my spin was far too positive.

Yes he was the potus, but in these times it seems that the dems are running around with their tails between their legs... "off with their heads" the queen would say, but the fuddy duddy dems seem to be scared of their own shadow... c'est tristesse!

6. No matter how much digging they do, I'm confident nothing will happen to The Dick.
Bush and his gang of criminals are above the law.

10. Where is Cheney? Anyone have the phone number for hell?
I checked Google and the closest I could figure is that the last time Beelzebub reared his face was
around June 1 2009. Remember Liz Cheney said her father was nervous about prosecution. Aww. Wah Wah.

12. I "may" be skeptical of any headline like this including the word "may".
Considering the general spinelessness of the Dems in the House (and Senate), I will even remain skeptical of headlines including the word "will" if the subject involves holding the Bushies accountable.
