Specter to Face Primary Challenge From Sestak(Officially Announced)

FOLSOM, Pa. — Democratic Pennsylvania Rep. Joe Sestak is challenging Republican-turned-Democrat Arlen Specter for his Senate seat.

Sestak declared his candidacy Tuesday morning at a VFW hall in Folsom, part of his suburban Philadelphia district.

The move sets the stage in Pennsylvania for a primary race likely to center on Specter's Democratic credentials.

Sestak, a 57-year-old former Navy vice admiral, has scheduled five campaign stops in Pennsylvania on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The announcement by Sestak has been expected. He's already visited the state's 57 counties and heavily campaigned.
