'This Week' beats 'Meet'; first time since '99

"This Week" host George Stephanopoulos takes the Sunday crown this week, topping “Meet the Press” in both total viewers and the key demo for the first time in head-to-head competition since 1999.

The matchup in total viewers, according to Nielsen numbers, was very close: 2.8 million to 2.77 million. In the 25-54 demo, it was 980K to 910K.

When Stephanopoulos interviewed President Barack Obama in January, “This Week” just edged “Meet” in total viewers, but not in the demo. Since Gregory took over from Tom Brokaw in December, who was then filling in for the late Tim Russert, Stephanopoulos has been inching closer in number of viewers, but "Meet" always holds on to at least one category.

Last Sunday, both shows featured economic gurus — Larry Summers (NBC) and Tim Geithner and Alan Greenspan (ABC) — but "This Week" also had big draw who isn't a regular on the Sunday shows: Michelle Malkin.

1. If they are attributing "this Week"'s rating gain to Malkin,
Then we are in deep doo-doo.

5. I like This Week
With George Stephanopolis much, much better. I always have, even with Russert, who was kind of a corporate tool too. I hope it isn't too soon to say that, but it is true.

Sadly, it didn't record this week. Just thinking I could probably find it online.

2. I watch This Week instead of MTP all the time...
...because MTP is repeated on Sunday afternoon on MSNBC and is available on demand all week. This Week doesn't give you any other opportunity to watch it if you don't record it yourself.

Right wingers competing with right wingers in the right wing media machine. Why single out Gregery? He is just one cog in the right wing noise machine.

6. David Gregory disgraced himself
when his obsequious emails begging David Sanford to appear on his show were made public. He beseeched Sanford to come on his show, saying Sanford "could frame the questions".
We expected the Fox players to kowtow to Sanford. They promised Sanford a "friendly" environment. Of course.
But Gregory? Disgraceful.
We quit watching MTP and switched to Stephanopoulos and Fareed Zakaria.

7. Fareed Zakaria's GPS is actually the ONLY worthwhile Sunday show out there....
and the only show on CNN worth watching, period.
