DeMint: Town hall disruptions are ‘unacceptable.’

This past week, town halls held by members of Congress across the country were disrupted by “increasingly ugly scenes of partisan screaming matches, scuffles, threats and even arrests,” many of which were part of an orchestrated conservative strategy. The town hall tumult has been encouraged by some prominent Republicans like House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH). But in an interview with a McClatchy reporter, Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) said the disruptions were “unacceptable“:

DeMint, though, bridles at the notion that his hard-edged words have encouraged the angry shouts of “Move to Europe!” or “Socialist” that have disrupted some Democratic lawmakers’ town hall meetings.

“That’s unacceptable,” he said. “We’ve got to express our opinions, but we’ve got to show our respect.”

A month ago, however, in his National Press Club speech, DeMint said, “We’re about where Germany was before World War II where they became a social democracy.”

4. My guess
Would be that they are becoming somewhat concerned with the escalation of violence, they are not really known for their ability to foresee anything, they cannot even see that they have become irrelevant to politics except as blockaders. If this stuff doesn't stop pretty soon it has the real potential of serious consequences and someone is going to get hurt. I can actually see the possibility much more serious clashes with armed hooligans and thugs... Nothing would surprise me at this point.

7. actually I have thought about this a great deal

Why should the corporations who want a society with nothing regulated and the worker on the ropes not be fighting back to regain their free reign. They are bitter that after much booty thrown at the republicans that they have failed. Their next step is the Attack of the Zombies, thugs that they have recruited to do their bidding at a cheaper cost than their Congressional cronies. I think the Republicans are beginning to realize that these corporate plutocrats never had long term need of an active congress or a democratic model. What they want is a power grab with the majority of the American people on the outside with them in the inner core with the power and the money and congress is optional. What is not optional is their army of thugs and vocal on-air extremists to whip up the gullible.

20. I imagine
You are correct, they would just as soon disband our government as an elected body(joke) and appoint their chosen hirelings outright rather than have to go through the rigmarole of holding an election every few years. They could then name their own "chairman of the board".

19. Isn't DeMint the guy who made the crack about...
...healthcare being Obama's "Waterloo" and bringing him down?

Guess he forgot that 'Waterloo' was one hell of a nasty-ass battle...people got killed, maimed, broken etc. on BOTH sides.

As you said...the monster is loose and rampaging in the village. NOW whattaya gonna do?

17. I'm a little more cynical - I'm thinking they're realizing these freaks don't play well except with
the extreme base... maybe he's not so much concerned with violence rather poll numbers?

22. I'd agree with you 100%, but the optimist in me hopes that these remarks may be the first steps in
actually beginning to realize what they have unleashed. Let's hope it's not too late, because these fools have a tendency to stoke the flames until the point that the conflagration they create quickly roars out of control.

2. Now That There May Be Some Push Back On These RW Disruptions ........
by our side - they are going to say that these disruptions are unacceptable - and they will blame any further disruptions on the pro health reformers.

You'd have to bus people in from out of state to find someone who'd disrupt his meetings.

3. GOP internal polling must be showing tons of blowback
It's not like the GOP is standing up for any grand idea or even discussing faint possibilities.
They are just flinging poo all over their party and the stink is overbearing.
Who but the craziest of crazies wants anything to do with that ???
Final throes baby. Final throes.

8. Too late
DiMilkomagnesia and his minions Glen Drek and Limpballs have unleashed the rabid, foaming-at-the-mouth dogs from their cages. It will be interesting to see if they can put them back. The irony is that like last year, they played their hand too soon and the blow-back is gonna be a bitch!

25. DeMint has the personality of a stick.
A short, bitter stick at that. He makes Sanford look positively charismatic. He also shares Sanford's ideology of let the government do nothing. Plus I doubt if DeMint has the saving grace of hiking the Appalachian Trail. He isn't useful, and he isn't funny. Making fun of him is like trying to make fun of mold.

I have a friend who has to try to work with our representatives. She says he is the worst. She may call his office or try to go talk to him, but only so she can say she tried.

I'm writing him a letter, but I'm having to work on historical references because he doesn't appear to live in this time.
