And this morning it started blowing snow horizonally, east to west--not our usual weather pattern. We usually get weather from the west, the Great Plains. Currently it's near a white-out situation with several inches on the ground.

35. It may be mostly melted by then, I think
It's not snowing or raining right now, but it looks like it is because it's all falling/melting off the tree branches. Kinda pretty, if you don't think about the poor flowers and leaves under the snow (though I think snow insulates stuff from potentially colder air).

18. They're face-down in the snow, melting into nothing.
I totally freaked when I went outside on March 11, to find them sprouting. They've never come up that early - even the hostas were poking up their little purple spears - and that usually doesn't happen until mid-May! I am officially freaked out by what's happening in my gardens this spring - it doesn't bode well at all for the climate.Something's very wrong.

25. I cleaned out the bed in front of my house a week ago last
Sunday and then it turned cold. I should have left the hostas and everything else in that bed covered up for a while longer, I guess. Glad I hadn't done the backyard yet. My forsythias are in full bloom, too.

42. At this rate, I wouldn't be surprised.
When it got cold last week, I figured it would last a few days and then warm right back up again. Now I'm thinking all bets are off, as the forecast through the weekend doesn't look great. So much for all those StepItUp events -- it's going to be lousy outside on Saturday around here.

and there are no city snow plows here. Most people didn't even have shovels, only garden spades (if that).

You'll probably be dug out by tomorrow afternoon. In the meantime, I prescribe mugs of cocoa, an afghan, and a good book.

Luckily, it's not sticking, but it was coming down pretty hard. It's lightened up a bit now. Looks more like January than April. Somehow I knew in December and January that we'd be paying somewhere down the road for the mild temperatures we were having.

back in 1970 (maybe '69, don't remember for sure) there was snow in *June*. I thought I was living in some remote arctic place after seeing that. Then I moved back in 1979. A few years of bitter cold winters and then El Nino moderated the winters quite a bit.
