My Brother's Tour Of Duty Was Extended To 15 Months Today
Thus furthering our family nightmare, where the stress of having him over there is nearly killing us.

7. I'm so sorry... May he be kept safe until his return home.
And may your family find the strength to bear this burden. I was a basketcase when my son was over in the gulf - and he was in the Navy - relatively safe on a ship. I cannot begin to imagine how hard it must be to have your beloved brother in the thick of things.....

8. Keep hope alive maggie g. Know that there are millions of people
trying to resolve this horrible situation. Please let us here at DU help you if you ever need it.

BTW, if you haven't decided which of our candidates will help your brother the most, I ran across this great resource from MoveOn today.

Handy for comparison of Biden, Clinton, Dodd, Edwards, Kucinich,
Obama, and Richardson on a selection of topics with focus on Bush's
War. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4F1QF8BZ74Q

Transcripts are available for your perusal at http://www.moveon.org/
and click on Iraq Town Hall.

9. Oh, Maggie! That's a punch in the gut! I'm so sorry.
I know it must always be there in your head and heavy in your heart no matter where you are or what you do.
How much longer does he have to go with the extention? How easy is it to communicate with him?
Is there anything we can do? Letters, carepackages, anything??
I wish I could help all of them.......come home...:(

10. Damn, that sucks!
The neocons goal appears to be to send them back and use them up. They could give a flying f**k about what it does to the families and to the troops themselves.

12. Representative Harry Mitchell Is A Good Man
We did a good thing here in Arizona when we elected him. He is very sympathetic to the cause. We just lost two soldiers from Arizona last week.

My brother's take on it is that it is a GOOD thing, in the long run, if it means that a draft remains unnecessary. He doesn't want to see a bunch of wet-behind-the-ears kids going over there and getting killed.

13. I don't want to see
my son going back over there and getting killed!

Or any of them, for that matter. :grr:

Including all the Iraqi's that are being killed.

This is a fiasco, on a grand scale.

14. I Understand What You Are Saying. I See My Brother's Take On It, Too.
And I hate to say this, but how can your son avoid it, at this point? It makes me so sick at heart to type those words to you.

17. I feel your pain....
"how can your son avoid it, at this point?"

Well; he could've gotten out, I think.
I'm not totally sure about that though.
He was stop lossed the first time.
Some will tell me I'm wrong about that,
but my son and his Co. insist that's true!
They were the last resort...the short-timers.
They had all satisfied their contracts.
It'll be a year he's been home - April 20th.
He was there for a year and is just regaining
his footing now. So am I... I don't know if or
how I'd deal with him there again. I can't even
wrap my head around it. It was a long 17 months!

One breath at a time, one day at a time. Try to find some things to keep your mind from dwelling on it too much.
