They could be discussing the stoking of fear and hatred by the right wing PR firm supported "grass roots" organizations but David Gregory is managing things so Tom and Rachel get to make some important points but Dick Armey is allowed to continue his pretense.
And then David Gregory says President Obama is telling people they can keep their current health insurance if they like it but that really can't be guaranteed because employers may drop insurance if their employees can get the public option !! Instead of supporting the so called free market principle of introducing strong competition into the mix.
And how about the 50 million uninsured? And the millions more underinsured?
And no mention of the blatantly clear fact that the Medical Industrial Complex told the same anti-public-option lies in the 90's, saying they could do better but have failed miserably to prove their case.
Rachel has been doing ground-breaking exposure of right wing scare tactics-- the very disturbing reality that those "grass roots" organizations that are funded by right wing PR firms are spreading lies-- and "distinguished" politicians like Grassley are fanning those flames. Why didn't Gregory ask the Republicans why their leaders are stirring up fear using a minor provision in the bill that many Republicans voted in support of? Why did Gregory lead the discussion on that to be about the need for end-of-life counseling rather than stress that such consultations are and have always been voluntary and the provision is just about allowing the national health system &/or Medicare to pay for those voluntary consultations? Guess David Gregory just feels that there isn't enough Obama bashing going on and he'd better lead the charge-- thinks jumping in with the right makes him a tough journalist, I guess.
MTP could have been far more interesting if they'd brought on 4 Democrats to debate the issues because the paid right wing shout-downs have dominated the airwaves so far. Paid PR has ruled the roost by bullying, and NBC decides to have a "50/50" discussion. And Gregory just blithely allows the right wing Republicans to continue spouting lies and doesn't attack their main weaknesses.
Poor Tom Daschle and Rachel Maddow-- they spoke well and shared key points but were drowned out in hogwash that Darling David Gregory allowed to float on an equal footing.
Trying to watch the show once again because I admire Rachel Maddow just affirmed why I watch the show so rarely-- the decks are stacked. Guest count may be 50/50 but the arguments are managed 70/30 in support of giving right wingers more time to speak.
