First the first lady got America talking about the right to bare arms. Now people are buzzing about whether it’s right for her to bare her legs.

During a recent family vacation to the Grand Canyon, Michelle Obama stepped off Air Force One in a pair of “short shorts” that some are calling inappropriate.

The mid thigh jeans shorts Obama sported are something most American women would wear without a second thought. But were they a fashion faux pas for a first lady?


Famed news anchor/dung beetle Matt Lauer even got into the act, interviewing two women earlier this morning on NBC about their views on the subject.

...and it's not just the MSM that are talking this crap up. HUFFPO has a poll up on their site about whether it's appropriate for the First Lady to *GASP* show her legs!

20. Amazingly enough, I took a second look at those because of sun-protection needs! ROFL...

I think the young woman that started this enterprise actually knows she has a niche in that market as well. These ensembles are cute, with fun fabrics.

Moms who are not obsessed with modesty but want sun-protection for their little ones can actually persuade their tots to wear an outfit like this. Teenagers, not so much. Older ladies might take a second look at a modified version -- you don't have to wear a full dress to get hip-coverage, after all -- not a bad idea at all.

I'm not likely to get one, but I see the need. Mr Sun has never been a friend to my Irish skin, and this year I have started breaking out in hives from even the little exposure I get. x( Since I'm redoing my yard, I've invested in UPF 50 shirts from Sungrubbies and gloves from Coolibar to go with the huge straw hat.

I think Michelle Obama and her daughters look just fine the way they are and should pay no attention to the envious.
