WTIC 1080 Hartford 24/7 Right Wing Radio
Last CHristmas WTIC dropped Colin Mcenroe saying it was due to economic times. Then laid off Diane Smith. Both were two liberal voices. Diane Smith was on with Ray Dunaway week day mornings and Colin had an afternoon show right after Rush Limbaugh. They kept Ray Dunaway by the way. On top of that they have a local right wing show with Jim Vicevich who went from 10:00am to Noon to his new time slot, 8:00am - Noon. So, WTIC,the once balanced AM radio station has Right wing Ray on in the morning commutes. Jim Vicevich, right wing talk radio .Then we have Rush, news Sean Hanity and Glen Beck.WTIC use to be a nice station to listen to for news and weather but it is all right wing now and they do not even hide it. Does anyone have any suggestions what I can do? I like listening to some local news while in the car but it is all now hate radio. Anyone have this problem in their city or state?

2. I could never listen to that station when we lived in Barkhamsted CT
My wife would tune it in from time to time for traffic info as we drove into Hartford

WTIC was one of the reasons we dumped free radio and signed up with XM years ago

Now we live in NC and we have a very very right wing station WBT and believe me it is ten times worst than I remember WTIC ever being on it's worst day

3. Sorry to hear that
Grew up listening to Bob Steele every morning. Two Buffalo, the story of the Little Chinese Boy who fell down the well, with a ridiculously long name. Not to mention that I think he was trusted more than Noah Webster for word pronunciation and meaning.

5. Bob Steele was great!
Those days are long gone. What drives me nuts is the station does not even care.I was thinking about writing the station an email telling them how I plan on notifying their advertisers and tell them both sides should presented, not just one.Liberal media my ass!

7. It's happening everywhere
Providence and Boston, supposedly bastions of liberalism, are both deeply entrenched in right-wing hate on multiple stations. Even the sports stations in New England have become another vehicle for criticizing liberals and Democrats.

8. On the 8s for rush hour traffic report only.

Without Colin, there's little point in tuning in anymore. Ray Dunaway lacks Colin's intellectual (yet still funny) prowess and Diane's uber-charm (which was too sweet but certainly better than anything Dunaway has to say). And Vicevich has clearly dumbed down - is it because he's become lazy or because he knows the audience? I try to catch the traffic at least once but tune it to the college stations.

Then there's the demise of any journalistic credibility at the Courant with the assignment of Fox-TV's manager in a dual role as the paper's publisher and the firing of so many of the smart and experienced reporters. And local tv news literally is reduced to lost pet reports, 25th wedding anniversary announcements, constant photo displays of anchors' kids (do they really think I care? that's the moment I hit the channel changer on my remote - jeez, the kids aren't even cute...), and if the camera crews get lucky, a fire or two.

Of course, down in New Haven, the Register sent a college summer intern out to do a story at my office and she got 2/3rds of the facts completely wrong even with a provided fact sheet that contained the correct info. I'm not kidding.

I'm disgusted with it all.

9. I was annoyed
One day when Vicevich on his show that FINALLY they pushed out crazy people and the station will finally be the voice of reason during the Obama age.The station must agree with his views.Although, isn't it poor business to exclude the majority (or even 50%?)I have often said I wish they had Ed Shultz or Rachel Meadow or Thom Hartman on.I recall years ago they tried to bring in the Al Franken show. 90% of the station is right wing and Al would be pretty much the only liberal next to Colin on the station. I head people had a fit over this and passed on it. Why when they have a majority of RW hosts would they object to that? I am going to prepare on my vacation a simple email to send WTIC. Any suggestions? I want it to be short and to the point, but am terrible with these sort of things so if anyone has any suggestions on how to start such a letter,I would appreciate it. I really do want to be polite but firm and let them know I am pissed.

10. taking a lesson from the outrage against Beck
Maybe we should be contacting the advertisers and just cc the management of WTIC. But then I'd have to listen long enough to identify the advertisers.

11. Just tell them the truth: you no longer have any reason to listen to their station.
and invest in some device where you can download audio files, podcasts, and such, and play them back in lieu of radio chatter.
Plus books on disk.
