MSNBC Crawler: Senator Schumer says Dems are going to go WITHOUT the GOP on Healthcare Bill
Edited on Mon Aug-24-09 02:15 PM by berni_mccoy
If true, this is great news.

FUCK BIPARTISANSHIP!

Update: Covering it now, Schumer says they have enough votes in the SENATE to push a Public Option through. Looks like a few Blue Dogs have been listening to their constituents.

1. Schumer To Dems: Attack GOP-ers, Get Ready To Pass Health Care Alone
Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) is telling Senate Democrats that they should prepare to pass health care reform alone by portraying Republicans as unwilling to vote for any health care bill, sources tell Greg Sargent.

"He is urging colleagues to emphasize the GOP's role in spreading false myths -- like death panels and illegal immigrants being covered -- and to emphasize GOP statements like Kyl saying he wants ZERO votes for health care," a senior Senate aide emailed Sargent.

Schumer attacked Kyl on Meet the Press yesterday for saying that almost no bill would get Republican support.

10. Be mindful that Schumer and Reid are on record that co-ops can be the public option.

Schumer is great at making a splash statement in the media and then spends his time behind the scenes pushing the corporatist line to get the result he always intended.

2. They pretty much have to.
Seeing as how the Republicans aren't going to vote for any health care bill no matter what's in it.

6. Yep. Now that they've said it out loud, the Dems don't have to go through the bipartisanship motions
anymore.

5. The Democrats need to start playing it smart and attack the GOP over this.
- Your insurance premiums are going to continue to go up, America.

- Your benefits and coverages will decline, your premiums will go up.

- Insurance companies are making a killing off of Americans:
1. Change since 2002 in average premiums paid to large US health-insurance companies: +87%
2. Change in profits of the top ten insurance companies: +428%

- GOP is telling you lies, America, to protect their big business insurance buds

- Republicans in Congress think their taxpayer-supported insurance is good enough for them, but the American people don't deserve it.

Hit 'em where it hurts for a change!

8. Gee I hope this means Max Baucus will be told to disband his Gang of Sicks
Edited on Mon Aug-24-09 02:26 PM by kenny blankenship
and let Democrats like John Kerry, Schumer and Rockefeller who're now being completely shut out of the Finance Committee "work" on draft legislation finally participate. As it is, they aren't even told what the Gang of Sicks are talking about.

Obama and weak Reid should have never let Baucus start this crap. Unfortunately they didn't just turn a blind eye to the Gang of Sicks.

11. The Democrats need to be very careful here.
The majority of Americans who support a "Public Option" are expecting a Publicly Owned Government Administered alternative "like Medicare" that is available to any American who wants it.

None of the current Democratic Bills come close to that.

Now that the Democrats have sole ownership of Health Care Reform, they had better produce something that noticeably improves Health Care delivery for all Americans.

Mandated Health Insurance coupled to a bogus Public Option (HR 3200) that in NOT available for everyone is going to disappoint almost everyone when the reality sets in.

They will blame The Democrats...
and rightly so.
