Gadhafi camping in New Jersey?
Source: CNN

August 25, 2009 -- Updated 0003 GMT (0803 HKT)

(CNN) -- In just a few short weeks, Rabbi Shmuley Boteach could wake up at his home in Englewood, New Jersey, with Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi camped a few feet from his front lawn.

The authoritarian ruler of Libya is rumored to be planning to stay in an air-conditioned tent on the front lawn of a house owned by the Libyan Mission when he attends the U.N. General Assembly meeting in September.

Members of the predominately Orthodox Jewish Englewood community are less than enthused about a visit from a leader who has made anti-Zionist statements in the past. The recent release of the convicted Lockerbie bomber to Libya has heightened the animosity.

On Monday, Sen. Frank R. Lautenberg, D-New Jersey, called for the U.S. Department of State to restrict Gadhafi's travel to the area around U.N. headquarters in New York City, saying in a letter to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton he "was particularly concerned by news reports indicating that plans to stay in New Jersey, where the families of many Pan Am 103 victims reside."

4. The female bodyguard doesn't appear too amused, does she?
In fact, she looks poised to kick the box he's no doubt standing on out from under him.

7. Now if they were really smart they would publicly and loudly invite Ghadafi to Shabbat.
Who knows? He might accept and learn some tolerance.

8. A have a feeling
that "tent" may not exactly describe what he'll be staying in. Hardly likely to be what some would use at Galax or Cliff Top. :)

11. Shmuley Boteach is going to have to suck it up.
Oh well. Gadhafi and Libya cut a deal after 9-11 and are back in the good graces of the establishment. Plus they have oil.

.... the city learned the Libyan mission to the United Nations had bought the Palisade Avenue estate. Local officials worked out a deal with the State Department limiting its use to the recreational activities by the ambassador and his family, Rothman said. The Libyans don't pay taxes on it.

19. we're supposed to be afraid of Libya again, now?
remember Ronnie's hysteria that the IRA, ETA, RAF, and Abu Nidal were gonna git us by invading from Nicaragua and blowing up Miami, while their devious Libyan and Iranian backers hid behind international law?
the hysteria became less amusing when he slaughtered a few dozen Libyans in 1986, including Qaddafi's 1-year-old girl (whom Daniel Pipes, ever the sensitive truth-teller, denied ever existed)
"there's relatives in this state?" really, Lautenberg, is that the best you can do?
