Hurricane Bill kicked up Hawaii-sized waves along much of the Eastern seaboard, but that did little to squelch the bigger splash made when President Obama and his family arrived Sunday on Martha’s Vineyard for an eight-day vacation. “For the next week, the Obamas will be among the thousands of summertime visitors to this small Massachusetts island,” wrote Times reporter Jeff Zeleny, in the Caucus blog.
True, but unlike most vacationers, every detail of the First Family’s trip is being dissected by the media and blogosphere. The white Sophie Theallet sundress that Michelle Obama wore as she disembarked from Air Force One? (“She previously wore the summery frock on a trip to Ghana,” noted the fashion blog Glam Chic.) The Blue Heron Farm in Chilmark, Mass., where the family is staying? (“Very dodgy cell service,” according to Obama Foodorama, a presidential food journal). And there’s no shortage of travel tips, even for Bo, the First Dog (“Bo is welcome at Joseph Sylvia State Beach” says the Examiner.com, a local news Web site.)
