My son just told me why Bush is still president.

“We’re the wrong people, mom. If we were rich and famous he would have been out of office a long time ago.”

I think the kid is right!

3. I think "rich and ruthless" are better descriptives.

4. There are many layers of rich.

There's celebrity rich.
There's LBO Investment Banking rich.
There's national infrastructure owning rich.
And then there's rich enough they don't get talked about rich.

I think it was Chris Rock who gave a nice example of the difference between rich and wealthy.

Michael Jordan is rich. The person who paid him is wealthy.

Look at the people who spend a billion dollars to buy a sports franchise. They're still in the press. And they're damn rich.

But around the world, there are far, far wealthier people. And they are the ones who decide who stays and who goes.

That's just my feeling on it, but I think the young man was right. If there were somebody different in office, regardless of the party they were from, they might have been toast years ago. The family and money connections run very deep.

This point isn't made enough. Bill Gates is a piker to the hidden ultra-wealthy people who really run and own the world.
