Pelosi survives 1st 100 days as speaker. Yes that she did and she did it with class

WASHINGTON - Nancy Pelosi (news, bio, voting record) won her biggest victory in her first 100 days as speaker by making peace among her own House Democrats. Mollifying moderates and staving off liberal defections, she narrowly wrung passage of legislation setting a troop withdrawal deadline from Iraq.

The Iraq legislation was the truest testament to her leadership, analysts said. The nation's first female House speaker has also passed a raft of other bills, set herself up as a visible opponent to President Bush and taken steps to protect Democratic incumbents who could be vulnerable to Republican challengers next year.

Key tests lie ahead when House members return from their April recess in the coming week.

The Iraq troop withdrawal bill faces a veto threat from Bush. Pelosi critics point out that her legislative priorities, such as raising the minimum wage and expanding stem cell research, have not yet become law.

2. Leno asked her about "higher office". When she taled about dark chocolate and
one ice cream a day, I knew she was a kindred spirit...

7. I think she knows it and I do think she/they have a plan
and it can be as simple as to corner the rats which she is doing now with the timetable. If she holds her guns he will go ballistic for everyone to see and no one will be able to deny that he's crazy as a loon. these things take time is what I think, she has to get it right the first time, they'll be no overs and she knows that. by the 4th of july methinks

9. Pelosi knows what she is doing and she kept her word.
She said that impeachment was off the table, but apparently some here thought she was playing a game. Evidently, she means what she says. What a novel concept. She understands as things currently stand that impeachment now would mean that Bush would not be convicted in the Senate without at least 17 Republican senators joining the Democrats in voting to convict Bush. She understands that impeachment without conviction means Bush walks and that the impeachment process would become all consuming. Impeachment is not the be-all and end-all to everything like many believe.

10. I agree with you on that. if she keeps playing her hand the pressure will
keep increasing on the re:puke:licOn senators by their constituents to push for impeachment and then it will or can succeed. keeping his/their hands tied in the meantime is a good idea though. people are coming around, I'm hearing it here in the bush* world I live in.

12. Well now. That's sure one of the more disgusting headlines ever written.
She 'survives'? What did they expect? A nervous breakdown? A crying jag?

She's as tough as it takes ...... and then some.

Memo to the AP writers: Fuck you.
