Will Obama and Edwards give us Hillary?
I was thinking about this today (on my way back from an Obama rally in Atlanta) when I was telling my Mom that I was somewhere between Barack Obama and John Edwards. I was thinking, 'Where would the support go if Edwards or Obama dropped out of the race?'. Would most Obama supporters move to support Edwards; and vice versa?

FWIW, this is not an anti-Hillary thread, or a pro-Obama/Edwards thread. I'm just asking a question.

BTW, the rally was great. The Obama website is reporting 20,000 supporters. I guessed 10,000, but I certainly could be wrong.

1. I can't see Barack dropping out of this race
Plus, Edwards probably won't unless his beautiful wife's health problem gets to be too much for him.
They're both very strong candidates; and even though I'm for Hillary, I really do like both of them.
It doesn't matter to me one bit who I go to the polls to vote for, just as long as it's a Democrat. :hi:  :dem:

2. I think the Clinton/Obama rivalry....
...might give us Edwards. Or possibly Al Gore. I think a lot of people will be tired of Sen. Clinton, and I think once people start to get to know Sen. Obama, he'll lose this angelic glow he's been maintaining since the 2004 DNC keynote address. Right now, it's not Sen. Obama that people are backing, but the idea of Sen. Obama. I know that's what I was supporting when I voted for him in 2004, but having met the man (briefly), I lost some of my illusions about him. He's got this "everything for everybody" appeal going on right now, and that can't last.

That'll give an opening for Edwards, or possibly Gov. Richardson if he plays his cards right. Or, as I said before, Al Gore. Gore's the wild card that could change everything instantly.

5. And what gives you the right
to speak for all Obama supporters? Do you know what we are ALL thinking?

6. Thank you.
I just saw 15,000 to 20,000 Obama supporters that seemed to love him more after he spoke than before.

Did not make the "Cult of Personality" comment, it appears that some of their supporters believe that theory.

8. Maybe you ought to calm down a little.
The poster did not make any assumption of speaking for everyone, merely offering an opinion.

9. This is what was said
"Right now, it's not Sen. Obama that people are backing, but the idea of Sen. Obama."

Not some people, not most people, not a few people, but just people, meaning all people.

10. Hmmm-I see your point.
Perhaps I spoke out of turn, but I thought it a rather insightful comment, given that we, people, are, in fact, supporting the notions we have about the people running for office. "What you see is what you get" has never been true of any candidate, in my experience. The person whom we support always turns out to have some aspects we like and some we don't.

I became an enthusiastic supporter of Sen. Obama the very first time I heard him speak and began proselytizing all over Jefferson county, encouraging everyone I knew or met to check him out and support him. Whether or not this aided him in his senate run is, of course, open to conjecture.

I must admit to being a reluctant supporter of his presidential run for many reasons, not the least of which being that I wanted to keep him as an Illinois senator, but, given the timing, this probably is the best of circumstances for his candidacy.

Back to the original point, none of us can presume to be inside another's mind and to know what they really are thinking, so we have to support the idea of that person, the image built up in our own, rather than the real person. Thus, my comment.

4. Might "electability" and Clinton and Obama give us Edwards
I'm not starting any fight here, but a lot of people have talked about "electabilty". Might the dificulty in electing either the first African- American or female President lead more people to vote for a white lawyer from the Carolinas? If it should come to pass that more and more people began asking this question, should we not throw all of our efforts behind him? I'm gonna be supporting just about anyone who is running against the repuke, whomever it may be.

11. Just saw Obama in ATL .!!
It was awesome. I'm sold on him now. He actually said he would take on the responsibility of fixing the damage of the last 8 years. Yes, it is about a concept too. And Barack was very clear that he will need our help. He also said we can do this. I was truly moved and for the first time in 6 years actually proud to see the American flag and hear the National Anthem.

Peace
