severe weather forecast for northeast - sunday and monday
Severe storms continue to rumble eastward across the South. These powerful storms with frequent lightning will produce additional large hail, damaging winds and even tornadoes through tonight.

Several tornadoes plus severe thunderstorms with large hail and damaging winds on Friday and early Saturday produced damage all around north Texas, especially near Haltom City and Haskell, Texas. Other reports of large hail and wind gusts were reported across southern Oklahoma, central Texas, southern Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi.

Sunday will feature the powerful developing storm system along the Eastern Seaboard and that will produce flooding rain and high winds along the coast from the Middle Atlantic States and southern New England Sunday into northern New England Monday. Wind gusts from 40 to as high as 75 mph will occur, especially from eastern Long Island to Cape Cod, Nantucket Island, Martha's Vineyard, and the Maine coast. Coastal flooding and beach erosion are also big concerns.

Meanwhile, interior areas of the Northeast, especially in the higher elevations, could pick up a considerable amount of snow before the storm winds down on Tuesday. Heavy wet snow could bring down tree limbs and power lines and it will be a bear to shovel.

2. Spring, my ass.
Guess I'd better go out and stock up on essentials--like wine and cheese. :-) Seriously, it's fortunate that my husband and I work at home. Hopefully no one will lose power.

We do have a memorial service to attend tomorrow--I hope the weather's not too bad to keep people away.

5. If memory serves me correctly, there were similar types of storms
...across the midwest and northeast United States back in the mid to late 1950s during late March and into April. These included devastating hail as large as golf balls, freak freezing rain and ice storms which coated electric transmission tower and cables bringing many down from the tremendous added weight and of course tornadoes sweeping over large areas. I witnessed one such mega-tornado which blew across Michigan destroying a large part of Flint, then Port Huron jumped over the St. Clair River into Sarnia Ont and moved up the south east shore of Lake Huron for another 60 to 70 miles before it finally turned and blew out into the middle of the lake and dissipated. I was 10-11 years old at the time and it was a scary site and experience.

16. The ice storm of '98 left us without power, heat or water for 10 days. I really
hope we aren't headed that way again. Although at leas this time it isn't the coldest part of winter.

28. We got our power back on day 15 where I live in Northern New York.
We did have heat from a kerosene heater and a small wood stove which we also cooked on. We also could get water by dipping a pail in our hand dug well. Our frozen food kept pretty well on the porch.

All in all, we weren't too bad off.

29. We did have a kerosene heater but it never got the place warm until
bedtime. LOL It was a miracle we did not die of CO poisoning. It was a lousy time, though, as hubby had gotten food poisoning and I had a bad cold which later turned to influenza after I foolishly wore a summer dress to my MIL's outdoor winter funeral. But I was 8 mos preggers and had nothing else black to wear at the time. :(

Feh.. That was a horrible time all the way around.

7. No snow all winter is catching up on us, keep those sump pumps
handy. By the way, do you all know that if your pump dies and your cellar floods, Liberty Mutual...and maybe your company, will not cover your loss unless you have their "failure of sump pump" rider. I never heard of this rider until last spring when our pump died during the May deluge we had. Lost the furnace and for lack of a $23.00 rider, it cost us $6700.00 for a new furnace.
Needless to say, we now have the rider.

First they said heavy snow, then they said heavy rain. Now they've got it together...heavy snow and then heavy rain. Well, I'm all set...I've got the dog food and...the scotch. Now you know where my priorities are!

27. It was snowing and raining at the same time here in W MA

Not sleet or what you would usually consider "mixed precipitation." No, I mean big giant fluffy flakes of snow meandering down out of the sky along with your typical April rain shower.

No wind to speak of, though. It's been way windy this month, but not today.
