Detroit's police chief to soon find himself in the movie spotlight

Detroit Police Chief Warren Evans doesn’t know whether he’s ready for his close-up.

But it’s coming.

Evans is featured in Michael Moore’s new documentary, “Capitalism: A Love Story,” which takes looks at the economical misfirings that resulted in what Moore calls “the biggest robbery in the history of this country” — the bailout of private financial institutions.

Moore will host a private screening of the film at 3 p.m. Sunday at the RenCen 4 Theatre downtown. It will be the film’s second showing in Michigan. The first will be Saturday in Bellaire, a fund-raiser for the Antrim County Democratic Party.

“Capitalism” comes 20 years after Moore unveiled his first film, “Roger & Me,” at the Toronto Film Festival. Moore has made three of the six top-grossing documentaries of all time (“Bowling for Columbine,” “Fahrenheit 9/11” and “Sicko”).

The film comes a month after Evans switched to Detroit police chief from Wayne County sheriff, which is where Moore found him last year and liked what he saw. At the time, Sheriff Evans was halting the sales of foreclosed homes until President Barack Obama’s mortgage aid initiative could kick in. ..............(more)
