Report: French told CIA of hijacking plot in early '01
"PARIS (AP) — A French intelligence service learned as early as January 2001 that al-Qaeda was working on a plot to hijack U.S. airliners, and it passed the information on to the CIA, Le Monde reported Monday.

The newspaper said it had obtained 328 pages of classified documents on Osama bin Laden's terror network that were drawn up by the French foreign intelligence service, the DGSE, between July 2000 and October 2001."

The Defense Ministry did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

Le Monde reported that the documents included a note dated Jan. 5, 2001, which said al-Qaeda had been working on a hijacking plot for months. The intelligence note reported that bin Laden had attended a meeting in Afghanistan in October 2000, where a final decision to carry out the plot was made, the newspaper said.

I find it interesting that this says that the final decision was made in October 2000.

1. So Tenet Had The Information
but withheld it from Clinton but gave it to Bush? Is that what its saying? Also, it claims that no one understood that hijackings resulted in landings and negotiations but Richard Clark's book says they were looking for planes to be used to fly into events or buildings long before that.

Tenet - there is the key.

3. So this is the first thing they handed him?
Seems like it might have been memorable to him if it was one of the first things he was handed.

4. Yes.
I remember someone from the Fench government being interviewed on NPR back then saying that very thing. He said he got only arrogance from the U.S. government saying they had everything under control.

6. yeah, this was their Pearl Harbor
and a perfect excuse to prey upon the fear of Americans and start this war. This pains me- all of the wasted lives and the destruction of Iraq.

7. To all the people in the U.S. who want believe we were innocent victims
Edited on Mon Apr-16-07 08:24 AM by higher class
Our National Security employees told our leaders that we were in danger.
Our leaders told the new leaders.
The Russians and Germans supposedly told us about the coming assault.
The French told us.
Our leaders ignored it and didn't read or listen.

But, then ... after ... they did do something.

They pointed the gun at Afghanistan, then turned and shot Iraq.
They tortured human beings. For torture phishing.
They imprisoned 18,000 men.
They killed thousands.
They maimed thousands.
They destroyed a country.
They created refugees.
They allowed children to live in agony (going into the fifth years). And some to disappear.

They spent our money and allowed corporations to steal and cheat.
They made us pay for mercenary soldiers at millions of dollars more than our soldier kids.
They under supplied our kids and took things away from them or made them pay for them on their own.
They abused our kids on returning.
They disabused the hospitalized ones in a cover up.

They gave us four years of lies of a kind that no government of a free people should experience. But, we are not free. So they lied. Monstrous, inhuman, lies. Lies that are taking this country down.

Tenet's book is coming out soon. We know it had to be vetted by the CIA.
Are some trees going to get trashed? For nothing?

9. Not one report -- nine French intel reports between Jan and Aug 2001
It wasn't just the one report at the time of the transition, but a series delivered during 2001.

12. Response to conservative spin
Conservatives are twisting history to blame Clinton and ignore how Bush ignored multiple warnings. I have a post debunking this at Liberal Values:

14. Yeah. And Tenet told Condescenda, Rumsferatu and Johnnie Ashcan.
http://www.truthout.org/cgi-bin/artman/exec/view.cgi/65/22904

Then, in July 2001, Ashcan stopped flying commercial, citing an undefined "Threat assessment."

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2001/07/26/national/main303601.shtml

Too bad Bush and his cronies failed to warn the rest of the American flying public, wot?

Beat the eagle sore.
