Schumer amendment on public option fails by 13-10 vote.

A public option amendment offered by Sen. Chuck Schumer, which would have allowed for negotiated reimbursement rates, failed by a 13-10 vote in the Senate Finance Committee moments ago. Sens. Max Baucus, Kent Conrad, and Blanche Lincoln voted with the Republicans to defeat the amendment.

16. Your comments will happen. Surely no one expected the PO to pass
the Finance Committee, did they? I sure didn't. It will make it into the bill later in conference.

20. It WILL matter! By all means, let them know they won't be coming back to Congress
by voting this way!

7. So Nelson covered his weak ass by voting for one of the two knowing it was going to fail anyways.
so he could have one fig leaf to wear with the base and another to wear with conservative voters.

Perhaps he should be on Kabuki Dancing with the Stars?

And screw the other turncoat bastards that have "D"s by their names - time to primary their asses.

15. Except that the Party Machine will starve
out any D challengers. Believe it or not, these three and all the other Blue Dog/DLC stooges are useful tools to those in the administration that are hellbent on passing health care reform WITHOUT any sort of public option.

22. Typical DLC ploy
Have one or two appear to be the good guys in order to fool the gullible, knowing that corporatism will prevail.

(Would've carried, 13 yea, 10 nay). This ain't the only bill alive, though, or the only amendment either.

It's going to be a bumpy ride...

12. I have the impression that legislators provide us chattering classes Kabuki Theater ...
The real decision making process is being done behind the scenes by our "beloved" Power Elites on Wall Street.

18. That was the whole point of our Teapot Tempest August
It was theater to provide cover for corrupt 'Democratic' legislators to vote against the interests of the people and for the interests of the health insurance industry.
